wow didn't know this was a thing!! I thought you guys just beefed out the heat or something. cool to know that there are water-cooling suits for your body rather than your computer components or alike lol

Had no idea this was a thing. I thought race cars just dealt with the heat. Only thing I would add, is to not point the return directly at the pump. Give the return water time to cool back down before being pumped out again.

Feels like your torso is being hit with ice cold water... wild feeling while you're sitting on grid. The heat is literally no longer a factor. Could be 120 degrees but it doesn't even matter.

I’m a surgical technologist and one of the doctors I work with always wears a vest like this in surgery. So you guys might want to look into surgical equipment instead of ones specifically branded for racing

Hey Fielding! Long post incoming, worth the read though I think! I definitely have an easier solution for you! More compact, less weight, more reliable and doesn't need a resupply of cold material. The only downside would be that it requires more power. Look up Peltier cooling! (also known as TCT or TEC). What a peltier element does is the following: When you put a current trough it, one side becomes really cold and the other side becomes really hot. The temperature difference can be as much as 80c (170fahrenheit) This way, if you cool the hot side down to say 50c with a simple computer heatsink, the cold side can become as cold as -30c (-22f). If you pump water from the vest through a heatsink mounted to the cold side of the Peltier element you'll have infinite cooling! A few final notes: 1. These elements aren't super efficient. If you deliver 100W of power to it, it can soak up 80W of heat. Thus, you need to cool 180W of heat away on the hot side to cool 80W off your body with the cold side. You might have to put a few of them in series to get the cooling capacity you need. 2. If you reverse the current you flip the hot/cold side. That way you can run it as a heater system in the winter! I can help you out if you want, like generating a list of components you'll need. Pricing may vary, since I'm in The Netherlands. With the stuff you already have you can probably get away with a $300 price tag for all the components together.

Curious how the helmet blower part does for you? to much moisture/cold air and cause condensation? I am looking at doing this exact same thing but wanted to make sure the helmet part wasnt an issue on a hot day.

Since the cooler itself isn't pressurized and you don't fill it all the way, is there any risk that when you're taking the car sideways, the water might slosh around and get air bubbles in your pump?

Noise wise stationary? Does the cooler keep it minimum or can u hear the pump running constantly. Also does the cool shirt leave what ever you are wearing over it damp/wet?

Why not just leave the AC like @ChrisFix ? ;) I mean I know why people take them out (so did I) but if you want to go all this way for a cooling tshirt, AC seems like an easier solution ;)
@TheSkattin
@TheSkattin 4 жыл бұрын
not really when you build a drift car and don't have room in the engine bay for A/C with turbo and other goodies.
@owcarnia
@owcarnia 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheSkattin That's not entirely true. Most drifters move radiators to the back anyway, so you could move both evaporator and condenser there. So this leaves only the compressor in the engine bay. And sure, you loose a few HP. But just crank up the boost by 1% and you're in the same place. You won't be able to wear this tshirt in a competition suite, so this won't fly for any serious level guys. And the rest could easily get away with having AC.

Yeahhhhhhh. It's generally bad for health when you lose consciousness from oxygen deprivation and crash a 100mph racecar into a brick wall. Condensed chunks of rapidly sublimating CO2 in a confined space? What could go wrong? 🤣
