Excellent video! Just mounted a new 65" tv to a corner in my living room and decided floating corner shelves would be a good choice for an entertainment center. Came across your video and love the idea of using reclaimed fence boards...I have a lot of boards in my backyard from a fence project I just completed and was about to send them to the recycling center. But now I've got a great use for them! So glad I found this video!

I am in awe of your perfect walls allowing for easy 45’s. I am currently trying to build a corner shelf and am in angle hell. Not to mention the 2 fire blocks I’ve encountered trying to feed my wires in the wall.
@etronicsez2 жыл бұрын
ouch yeah that is painful, my thought is maybe create a 2x2 test fitter frame thing, then use as template for the angles, might be a ground zero starting point for the troubleshoot.

It's always the simple projects that are the most satisfying. Going with past proven ideas such as the floating desk drawer and modifying it to fit the next need just reinforces good ideas! I also see you are working on your deck, maybe a video of the build and putting in finishing touches like drink holders in the rails or other fun stuff is in order? Stay safe and enjoy life!
@DIYPETE4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Peter and great to hear from you! Yep, going to be finishing the deck in the next month or so and a video will go over the whole build. I think we may do some cool railing and perhaps a seating area along one area of the rail. And then of course will make some patio furniture for it down the road! Looking forward to sharing, cheers!

Nice project! One of my first ones was a desktop in a corner like that, brings back the memories! On the brad nails shooting out the side, you might want to change the angle of your gun 90 degrees, so that the length of that bottom board your nail's ending up in is running toward/away from you, up and down in relation to the gun. The operative principle is how the nails are shaped, and how they stack in the magazine. They're flat/oval in the stack, so they're going to want to do any deflecting inside the wood so as to bend up or down (toward the top or bottom of the gun), not side to side where they're thicker.

You work great! But I was sure that TV in corner was a thing of the past when we got rid of the CRT 😆😅. But you did it very clean ! One suggestion would be to get a soundbar and maybe embedded in one of the shelves. Im not a huge fan of soundbars but on this setup it would look very clean !
@DIYPETE4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I would typically do the TV on a wall, but the whole upstairs at the place is windows so this works for it :) I think a sound bar would be a nice addition for sure. Might have to get one! I did the 2 front speakers and 2 rear speakers in the ceiling that is fun to use for movies and music. Cheers!

I liked that you used the old wood from your fence! How long did you let it dry before making the corner shelves?
@DIYPETE4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We let it dry it dry out enough to work with the wood, but definitely not as long or properly as I normally would. Since we are in the stay at home rules for the virus, we didn't want to go out, yet we wanted to build a project, so we decided to just go for it! Wood was mostly just wet around the outsides when we got it, and we used the drier pieces and portions as we got started. It is looking beautiful though and we love how it turned out. Cheers!

Great result, I was planning to make one of these and use a cleat fastening style, but not sure how that cleat style would be leveled perfectly, it would wobble if not perfect. I want the cleat style so that I can take the shelf with me if I move, any tips or links for this would be bliss, thanks.
