+The Woodland Elf Can this same flare effect be done on the INSIDE seem of the leg when you just want to have the flare effect with out the design?... That's what I want, just to make a skinny into a boot flare, but unseen on the inside leg.
@Thewoodlandelf8 жыл бұрын
+Bonita Gee - I've never tried it on the inside seam, but I don't see any reason that it shouldn't work. It's just a seam with an insert either way, so yeah, I think it would work just fine on the inside seam too.

I love this! Having short legs (and wider hips) means always always always wear flare. Which in a society hell-bent on skinnies makes it very challenging to find. This video is quick and easy to follow now I just need to get those fancy rotary cutters and the plastic sheet thing. Thanks for the video and I subscribed for more how to's. :-)
@Thewoodlandelf9 жыл бұрын
Smudginator2000 Thanks :) You can always cut the flares with scissors too if you don't have a rotary cutter. I used to do all my cutting with scissors until I got a rotary. As long as you cut reasonably straight lines they'll be fine.

Skinny jeans are not for all sizes, so true. If you look like a hot air balloon you might want a more balanced cut of jeans.
@catscompany7355 жыл бұрын
Don't know who told you that if you have short legs & wide hips that you should always wear flared pants! Any thing "wide" makes a short person look larger than they appear! You should wear straight leg jeans, not skinny jeans! It only stands to reason that wearing something Wide is going to accentuate the dimensions! And where this person gets the idea that flairs like this are Cowgirl flares, is totally ridiculous! I've lived in the west, Phoenix, Arizona. My best friend was a Barrel Rider! I went to many Rodeos with her! Not a one wore flares like this! A very slight flare, maybe, but 99% wore their jeans "stacked" straight leg jeans stacked up over their boots so that when they sat on a horse they didn't rise up to far. Flares like this would definitely get in a riders way, especially in a Rodeo event! And there is a way to make jeans into flares that is soooooo much easier than this technique! All you need are rectangles to sew into the tri-angle space to make the legs flare! Then trim! But with any of these methods to make skinny or straight leg jeans into flares, you must make sure the fabric you use is straight on grain or you end up with wavy flares, that look clownish! But you never ever wear Wide flares if you are short with wide hips or you will look wider! Whoever told you that you could was being mean!

@@catscompany735 hi actual western rider and barrel racer here. Please don't speak for us because we are not all the same. Some wear skinny jeans to show off fancy boots. Many of us wear boot cut to well, go over our boots. Rodeo fashonista Fallon Taylor has been seen racing in bell bottoms. So if the nfr 2014 champion and aqha world champion races in them, then they're fine. 2nd point let the girl wear what she wants, she wasn't asking for advice. 3rd point she probably gets the "cowboy/girl" name from the print of the fabric she used...

I have massive calves and often have major trouble to find jeans that fit. Often they are way too big on the hips and thighs but tight and uncomfortable on the calves. This seems like an awesome and fun way to expand the calves part of jeans so they fit better for me.
@Thewoodlandelf Жыл бұрын
They're great; they make it nice and easy to put socks on or off while the jeans are on too, since they're so loose on the calves.

I'm getting ready to make some bell bottoms for our Halloween costumes. Almost gave up until I saw your video. Thank you for making this easy to understand and follow. I don't have a sewing machine so I'll either have to do them by hand or maybe even use a glue instead?
@Thewoodlandelf9 жыл бұрын
+Vegan Lovebirds Yeah, they can be sewn by hand easily enough. I used to do them by hand too before I had a sewing machine. As far as glue, you could try one of the liquid stich or other fabric glues, though I'm not sure how strong they would be for something like this, since denim doesn't have a lot of give. If they're just for costumes, you could always use hot glue. That would hold well, just make sure you don't wash them in hot water and don't use a hot drier.
@veganlovebirds23489 жыл бұрын
+The Woodland Elf Thanks! Hot glue is genius since we're just wearing them for the Halloween party! Thanks again!

Can I use corderoy for the inside instead of denium? You have the best directions in all the You tube I have watched also.
@Thewoodlandelf Жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊 Yup, you should be able to use corduroy instead of denim. It's just a bit softer so the flare might not be as stiff as it would be with denim. But if you're ok with that, then yeah, use the corduroy.

I like your video a lot. Did you hem the flare before pinning it into the jeans or did you leave enough over hanging the bottom of the jeans to hem it after?
@Thewoodlandelf6 жыл бұрын
I'm short, so I have to hem all my jeans anyway. So I cut the bottom off my jeans to get them ready to hem and cut the insert to match the length. Then I just hemmed everything all once. For folks who don't have to hem their entire jeans, I'd suggest hemming the flare insert before sewing it in.

Sew down one side and tie it off. Then sew down the other side and tie it off. It'll pucker less that way than one long thread would.

I have questions… 1. Where is the other piece of denim supposed to come from, and how did she know how wide it was supposed to be? 2. Why didn’t we see the finished pants from the front and back? 3. Where was the hem at the bottom? Without a hem, the pants will fray like crazy!
@Thewoodlandelf2 ай бұрын
1. The other other piece of denim can be sourced either from an old pair of worn out jeans (I purposely save the good pieces from all my worn out jeans to use for later projects like this) or you can just purchase a piece of denim from a fabric store. For sizing, I just cut it a smidge wider than I wanted the bottom of the flare to be. So that'll just depend on personal preference. Some people may want bigger or smaller flares. 2. I was only showing the insert on the finished jeans. When you say front and back, are you saying you'd like to have seen the full jeans, or just front and back of the leg? I'll make sure to do so on similar tutorial in the future. 3. The bottom is hemmed. I actually have a note about it in the comments. I'd forgotten to put the hemming part in the video, but the bottom of the insert should always be hemmed before sewing it into the jeans. In my case, I'm short, so I had to cut the bottoms of the jeans off as well in order to fit the length of my legs. So I just ended up hemming the insert and the jeans all at the same time. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
