i'm a Nigerian (Africa) & recently i've been wanting to watch tutorials from other countries so i can learn their own styles and sewing patterns but majority videos never show pattern drafting processes and it's so frustrating bc its like - isn't that the "tutorial"? 😅😅 Like I know how to sew w a machine, i want to see how u came up w the style lol. Anyways all I'm saying is I absolutely love it when tutorials include how to make the patterns so we watching can learn and follow along. I'm going to try this, thank you very much! 😊🤗

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been looking for one that has more draping and this is the only one I found :) btw, I want to ask about adjusting the neckline shown at 7:35, since you attached the strap at the very edge earlier, what happens to it if the neckline is adjusted?
@thatsemma-fashion2 жыл бұрын
Because my straps are at least one meter long, when adjusting the width of the neckline, the reduction on both sides is usually within 5 cm and this length will not affect the straps in any way. However, when doing this step, you need to make sure the straps are snug against the inside edge, otherwise, they may not be in the correct position when you turn the dress to the front. I also recommend that you do this step with all the pleats secured with hand stitches to reduce the chances of mistakes. good luck ❤
@thatsemma-fashion2 жыл бұрын
Or you can decide the length of the neckline first and sew the sides together, cut off the excess fabric, then rip the seam at both front corners, insert the shoulder straps, and sew them back together. You can choose any method you like, as long as the result is the same.

Also, you mentioned you had to cut the back piece in 2 pieces because of your limited fabric, I’m wondering, if we have enough to cut in one price should we? Should I cut (the length of the zipper) down the middle of the back and install the zip like that? Or is it better for the back to be in 2 pieces (even with enough fabric) for the zipper to sit right
@thatsemma-fashion Жыл бұрын
The back piece is meant to be separated in the middle, even with enough fabric, in the video I said I didn't have enough fabric to fold it in half and cut the 2 back pieces together like the front, instead, I had to open the fabric and try different angles to fit it in.

Love the video! if i have a different sam allowance than you (an inch) should i place the zipper an inch in from the edge? instead of right at the edge
@thatsemma-fashion Жыл бұрын
It depends on how wide your zipper is. My invisible zipper is about 1cm( 0,4in) wide, which is the same as my seam allowance(1cm), so I put it right on the edge of the fabric. You will need to adjust the position depending on your seam allowance and the zipper. for example. if you have 1in seam allowance and 0,4in wide invisible zipper, then you need to move 0,6in inward from the edge. always make sure the zipper+empty space=seam allowance

Hey i really loved the way you explained it!!! Amazing!! All i wanna ask is what can i do if i want to tight the dress a little in the bottom like a fit one???
@thatsemma-fashion Жыл бұрын
I assume you're looking for a pencil skirt shape, here's what I would suggest: when drawing the pattern, Instead of flaring out from the hip, draw a straight line down from this point to the hemline. then smooth out the side. To make sure you can move around comfortably while wearing the dress, I would recommend adding a slit on the side or CB. This will give you more freedom of movement. Let me know If you have any questions or need further help! good luck with sewing! 😉

@@vaishnaviraut7162 because when we connect the bust, waist, and hip points with straight lines, it will create harsh corners, and we always need to make sure the side seams flow smoothly from top to bottom. if you are still confused, you can google" pencil skirt pattern", and you will figure it out immediately.

Hey I'm attempting to make your pattern and wondering how you calculated the pleated part into 4 parts 😊
@thatsemma-fashion Жыл бұрын
I kind of eyeballed it😅, maybe you could try out my measurements with a prototype first to see if it fits. If it does, then you can go ahead and make the actual dress. BTW, the width of the pleats isn't too crucial because the dress pattern starts from the bust point. That means as long as we add the pleats, the important area (nip) will always be covered

@@thatsemma-fashion okay it is called half length in my country. The shoulder to waist measurement
@thatsemma-fashion2 жыл бұрын
@@nwaobialauzoamaka8113 Ok, I'm assuming you want to make a cowl neck top instead of a dress, then you need to make some modifications to the patterns. 1. trim the patterns shorter and cut 12cm below the waistline, which is the length of most tops. 2. don't trim the edge curve on the back (2:35), keep it straight. 3.u don't need to add a zipper! yeah! which means the back pattern needs to be cut on the fold as well(3:44). then the rest should be the same, but I suggest you make a prototype first to see the shape. @thatsemma-fashion Жыл бұрын
Where is it longer? Are the side seams the issue? If the longer part is on the side, just trim it off. but also when you cut fabric on the bias, it tends to stretch more. So, when you're putting the pieces together, be gentle and avoid tugging on the fabric too much

Hii!! I’m going to be making my own graduation dress. Do you think this pattern would be just fine for satin/silk material?
@thatsemma-fashion Жыл бұрын
Yep, absolutely, I recommend using a medium weight non-stretch silk or satin, as long as you cut the patterns on the bias, the skirt will be drapey and flowy. Fabrics that are too light may stick to your legs due to static electricity, which can affect the shape of the skirt, and Congrats on your graduation! A bright future awaits you!❤

I’m confused on how your folding the “front facing” and “back facing” and sewing down the sides and somehow your head goes in there somewhere?
@thatsemma-fashion Жыл бұрын
You can take an a4 paper and lay it flat on the table, consider it as the skirt that has not yet installed the zipper. Then you tape another smaller piece of paper (which is the facings) along the top edge of this paper. and then stick the two longer sides of a4 paper together and it becomes a cylinder, which is the skirt with the zipper installed, as you can see, the head can go inside without any problem. Of course, the top edge of the skirt is not completely flat, it has some curves (which I call the sides), but it is still overall the top edge, and the opening for the head is not blocked.
@thatsemma-fashion Жыл бұрын
the facings are only used for hemming the top edges, it works the same as the rolled hem, just because it's more suitable for curved edges, and also creates a more professional look
