The Denver and Rio Grande Western Iron Horse Route is a N Scale model of the prototype railroad owned and maintained by the D&RGW in the early 1950’s. The trip between Denver’s Union Station and Winter Park, Colorado. The line is still in operation today and is referred to as the “Winter Park Express” or the “Ski Train”. The prototype train typically was an ABB unit with a maximum of 14 cars in length. The trip takes about 2 ½ hours and raises in elevation approximately 4,000 linear feet in 45 miles resulting in a minimum grade of 1.7%. The route passes through the famous Moffat Tunnel directly before exiting into Winter Park. The West portal of the Tunnel is located with ½ Mile of the Iron Horse Resort, resulting in the name of the route.
This channel documents the construction and progression of this layout. Videos will be typically be uploaded on Friday's bi-monthly. Topics will be bench work, track work, electrical, automation, upgrades, unboxing's and review's , live streams, live chats, contests and much more.

Help! I have read everything I can find. Please read and if you have any comments or suggestions they sure would be appreciated. Drylok is what is recommended to seal. Any spray paint is supposed to be krylon fusion. An acrylic added to the drylok to tint it should be non toxic. Concrete dye can also be used to tint the drylok. Aquarium safe silicone or the ge sp #1 silicones are supposed to be safe. I did make a little blunder pretty early that I am concerned about. I used the wrong type of drylock. That drylock what throughouly covered with the right drylok waterproofer and sealer. I do have that in the back of my mind. I do have a good bit of cash in the tank and a little bit of cash and a lot of time in the background. My other major concern is CAN I GET the background off the tank if I silicone it to it and find that it turns out to be toxic??? Do you think I can use like a spatula and peel it off worst case scenario???? I intent to let the bacground cure for two more weeks. Then I intend to place it in the tank for a few days to dry with the silicone. Then I intend to fill it wilth pea gravel (throughly cleaned) and fill it wilth water and run the filter. NO fish yet. I intend to change the water out every day for a week. After this, I intend to buy some feeder guppies to put in the tank after running all the water tests and getting the levels correct. I will allow them to swim in the tank alone for about a week to see how they do? if they survive, I will move them and then place the oscar's in. Let me know what yall think! Thank you for watching and i appreciate your comments. Brian

I think you'll have no problem peeling off the backdrop if necessary. The silicone should remain flexible. A good, stiff plastic spatula should do the trick.

Great job Brian! The backdrop came out really nice. I think Gracie approved as well! I'm sure Pebbles & Bam Bam will love their new home. As I'm sure AJ, you and Gracie will get tons of enjoyment from the Oscars. Can't wait to see them enjoying their new environment.

Brian, I'm not done watching the whole video, but I hope you made sure to find out if all of the materials you are putting in the tank will be compatible with whatever fish or other living things you will be putting in with it. I had a very bad experience as a young boy by putting in a small plastic deep sea diver in my aquarium. It killed all my fish. Turned out that the plastic it was made of was highly toxic to fish. Just FYI before you get too far! ...Claude BTW...a VERY cool idea!

Thank you Claude! I appreciate you mentioning that and I pinned this comment in hopes that we can generate a little discussion. I’m no expert on them either. Just an FYI of what happened to me. I’d keep the silicone to just a few dots to hold the background. That way it would be easier to remove if needed.
