Dollar tree shower curtain s for the ground. Rit clothing dye for the fabric would be a good call. Water colors probably would work, some spray paint while the fabric is dry too. I like this technique. Thanks

@@NoritaGharib It hardens really well for wall art and you can apply it with a paint brush it you want it thick. Try it out. It also depends o the fabric being used as to how much you may want to apply. Have fun with it, if you try it let me know. I enjoy working with it.

The matte varnish still has a slight shine to it! It was freshly coated in the video, it’s not as shiny anymore. If you want the shiny coat there is a varnish that has that finish :)

So….I. LOVE textured wall art like this ! ❤❤. I did a piece ( as a novice 😊 ) with ModPodge , then spray painted with satin black which turned out nice. But my question is…do you always sand your pieces ? Or do you sometimes leave them to look more organic ? I’ve never used plaster.

hi there! okay so questions....I made a plaster art piece, and followed your video instructions. howeverrrr, mine didn't turn out the same lol...in terms of hardness. my fabric isn't hard, it's still like soft and flimsy. I did notice that when I was sanding it down the plaster kept breaking off? so maybe that's why. anyways, ive been trying to find a way to harden the fabric lol...please please if you have any suggestions let me know :) also if you need a picture of it I can message you on instagram! thanks so much and yours look amazing!

Feel free to send me photos on IG! It seems like there wasn’t enough dry time between layers and/or not enough plaster was added to the mixture. It should feel hard and thick before sanding!

Let's say that you don't want to tuck the fabric behind the canvas and you're making a composition that will have a design border, would you just use glue to secure the fabric to the canvas? For color I wouldn’t paint. What I would do is add dye to the water before mixing with plaster. Maybe even selecting a fabric in the desired color and dyeing the plaster water mixture 🥰

Polycrylic always turns yellow on me. I've ruined several paintings using that. I switched to Kamar varnish in the Krylon spray can. It's nonyellowing.

Around 7:30 when you’re adding all the plaster layers how much time did you leave them to dry in between? And does it matter if it’s still a bit wet when applying the next layer?

Roughly 30 minutes in between each layer. It was definitely still damp when I applied the next layer but it wasn’t a problem. As long as it’s fully dry before sanding it’s okay!

You’re welcome!! I apply a few layers of the protective coating (end of video). It’s still fragile, like if I purposely push my hand down hard onto it - it would crack. But it’s hung up and been fine :)

It does dry up. The speed in which it dries varies, slower when there’s more water than plaster but I make the mixture in small amounts so I can wash out the glass cup and brush often.

Yes you can! Any sheets would work. Since the plaster layers are what shape and color the finished piece. The color of the plaster is what matters most. I haven’t used food dye but I can’t see why not!

Just watched your video and your pieces are very striking. Please use and advise your viewers to use a mask while mixing dry plaster w/water and while sanding. Hey Lisa! For just plaster, no sheet I think this account on IG is a reference @gia.marie.art it seems like she layers super thick plaster (almost like clay) and sands it down to look like fabric. But for the fabric on the large pieces. I did the same as the video - very very watery plaster so I have the flexibility to move it into shape. Let it dry for a day and then I started to add thicker layers on plaster over it

The plaster lays on pretty thick, it will most likely cover the black sheet. But you can add color dye to the plaster mix (or paint after) if you’d like it to be a different color 😊

Adding more water than plaster extends the dry time! But it also makes the mixture runny, if you’re trying to apply thick layers - I make smaller batches because it dries up so fast and clean my brush in between

I notice that your large canvases are already framed. Did you buy them like that or frame them after you had done the art work?

I got them like that. They’re actually IKEA frames (Amsterdam ones) one I got off of Facebook marketplace, the other I found on the side of the road.

They weren’t in the best condition, but worked really well to turn into new art 🥰
