watched this vid a month ago and I just got mine today and used the program. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to completely overdrive the keyboard input, so e.g. 5 = S (Blur) when I press it it sets it to blur but also sets it at at 50% strength from 100%. I'll give up for now and will try and fix it later haha

I'v found you can actually have the same Button do two different things if Numberlock is on or off. Kinda like a mode switch so you could program your keypad for both gaming and editing and switch between the two modes by using the numberlock key.

So I wrestled with HID Macros for about 4-5 hours, having it not work, then not work repeatedly, before discovering Clip Studio Paint lets you add additional shortcut keys. Thanks for the video though, the keypad is super helpful and I've reclaimed half of my desk!

@Meh meth idk if you were replying to me but in the end i stopped using HID and i just decided to make do with just the keys on my numpad. it's not perfect but i can bind all the buttons in clip studio paint except for the tab and enter key, so i didn't need to use HID macro after all. and i use auto actions in CSP so i need less keys (i combined copy and paste into a copypaste auto action bound to one key for example). if you want extra buttons like ctrl combos maybe you could get a one handed gaming keyboard instead? its a little bigger but not by much. hope this helps somehow.

I've been using HID Macros for 2 years now thanks to you. :) Since we can't assign the 'Space', 'Shift', 'Alt', and 'Ctrl' keys alone on the numpad even with HID Macros, I just found out that I can use the cheap 'One-handed gaming keyboard' and combine it with HID Macros. It works perfectly for me because it has the 'Space', 'Shift', 'Alt', and 'Ctrl' keys that can be used alone and 28 other keys that can be used with HID Macros, and it is still saving you space if you put it beside your tablet. That one-handed keyboard also has a wrist rest ( plastic, but it is okay for me ). I hope this will help you~ Sorry for the bad grammar, but I hope you still understand what I mean. :)

But it is still functioning well and I'm still using HID Macros! :) But I have switched to a normal-sized keyboard because I got a 'monitor arm' that supports my pen display. I still recommend it though because it still saves your desk space. :)

@@Lemonberrys Thank you for your questions. :) 1. Sorry, I don't quite understand your first question. Do you mean: '() And + -' or ' (+ and )-' or '(+) and (-)' Can you specify the shortcut for me? But if you meant for rotation ( '+' and '-' ) (-) For left rotation (+) For right rotation You can't apply both of them at the same key, you need to have 1 ley for each of them. However, if you're using Clip Studio Paint, there is a setting in the 'File > Modifier Key setting'. There, you can set 'Ctrl+Space' for rotation ( press both of them at the same time and use your pen to rotate the canvas. ) But if you're not meant for rotation, please tell me. I'm not good at explaining, but I will try my best. :D 2. As I said above, the CTRL, SHIFT, ALT, and SPACE can be used as modifier keys in Clip Studio Paint. :)

Depending on your keypad, Amazon has clear key caps to keyboards. These open up and you can make custom labels and close them up. Look at the key stem that the key is mounted on and see if you can get these caps. Good luck.

I imagine you are tired of revisiting this vid but I just thought I'd give you a heads up- 1. The link for the numpad has changed to a mac pad. 2. Something I realized a few years back after purchasing a different numpad that some won't work. Wish I could say what makes them different, seems like it registers different keys in HID but still doesn't acknowledge them, like you click and it shows something different and then it goes back. (it has an extra row of keys at the top with calculator shortcut and some other stuff, that might be why it doesn't work.) All that bein said, I appreciate ya havin made this video cause it's dramatically increased my work flow for years now, and still recommend it to people.

Thanks so much, I have a bluetooth numberpad which I brought to customermise for clip studio as my kamvas 22 doesn't come with keys on the monitor so will be trying this out and creat my own digital art macro keyboard. I am also going to great icons which I will stick on the keys as well. Many thanks for the easy video. TIP: If you get a error when you open the programs, right click, run as administrative, this will resolve it.

@@luciidefI dont know if you have tried it out yet, but I thought i would mention that there are couple of keys (ctrl and alt and shift) that you will have to reassign using a different program (I used SharpKeys and it reassigns them even when HID Macros is closed) so right now, the /,* , and - buttons are assigned to alt, shift, and ctrl, respectively.) REMEMBER: if youre using an external kepboard, it is essentially linked to your main numeric keypad, so you have to turn HUD Macros off if you want your numeric keypad to resume to normal. Also, currently, those keys (ctrl, alt, and shift) are always assigned to /, *, and - so if i want those to turn off i have to delete the assignment in SharpKeys and restart my computer (the only inconvenience so far)

How would you make a macro for shift/control? As in, holding them down for using with the mouse/pen. It sends a single press repeatedly instead of keeping the button held down, even if I hold the buttons down

If anyone bought a USB NumPad that has Windows App Keys (Mail, Calculator, etc.), HIDmacros cannot overwrite those key functions because it doesn't have the authority to do so (something about how the API handles app keys). To get around this, you need to go into the Registry Editor and *Deactivate* those keys. That will deactivate them on your main keyboard as well, as a downside. Deactivating the app keys does not prevent HIDmacros from registering those keys being pressed, it just deactivates their intended function. Instead, HIDmacros registers the USB numpad App keys as if they're on a different numpad, separate from both your main keyboard and your external numpad. So long as you attach your macros for those keys to their listed numpad under the *Devices* tab, your key macros will work. I had to do this to use my numpad's Calculator and Mail keys as my Zoom keys for CSP (the macros are ^= and ^-). I hope this helps anyone who was stuck with their app keys like I was! I followed the instructions on this site to deactivate my app keys. Hi, I'm debating whether to try converting to Autohotkey myself (just a brain worm right now, sometimes HIDmacros glitches which is a slight inconvenience) and since you've tried this I just want to ask: 1. Does the program allow a differentiation between the keyboards (main laptop keyboard and the USB numpad for example)? 2. Do you need to keep the program open for it to function similar to HIDmacros? 3. How easy is it to set up the keys? Can you point out to me a concise general tutorial on what to do? @@koriatsui 1.From what I be see, no AHK can differentiate peripheralsr by itself. I belive there is someone that manage to do using another program in conjuntion with ahk but the process seemed to complicated for me so I can't tell you if it works or not, sorry. Alternatively, you can set hotkey to only work when a program is the active window 2.AHK work by creating scripts, it's a script language not a program like HID. You double click the created script to run it and exit it from the tray (or set a hotkey to close the script) 3.Setting keys is realy easy, a simple key overwrite script will look like this: a::b in this case pressing a will result on an b being input and that's it. Note that the numlock on keypads cannot be overwrite as it's a swith and not a key (it's hard to explain) AHK comes with plenty of documentation (that's where you can find the 000 script I mentioned) It does look intimidating at first but you can always look up the forums Hope this helps!

Spent 4 hours trying to figure out this dinky little program, most of the tutorials are ass, to advanced for simple stuff like keys, but not this one. Thank You so much :D One thing to note that kept screwing things up, lots of programs don't seem to like capital letters (like ctrl+c works, but not ctrl+C) Also can't seam to get multiple key commands to work, like Shift+UP, not sure why?

Looks a great tool to have and I wish I could use one, but for us guys we can't multi-task!!!!....I have trouble using the express keys on the Cintiq as it is!!!!ha ha. Seriously it looks a great idea and I think I will give it a go, ideally a wireless one would be good to work on the IPad Pro but I am not sure if you can get the connections as IPad does not have a USB Port for the receiver.

Since most of the apps on the iPad don't have keyboard shortcuts/aren't that customizable I wouldn't think you could really use something like this. I may be wrong though, and the only way to connect devices to the iPad is through Bluetooth. I may try it one day if I get my hands on a Bluetooth keyboard.

That's true, I have seen a Bluetooth keyboard used on an IPad Pro but it wasn't used with any photo editing software, to be honest I would probably buy one for my PC and use it instead of the express keys, sometimes with the express keys especially after updates from Wacom it can reset the keys or it has crashed my system after updates although not for some time since Wacom changed its driver update on a more regular basis. Great vid though and I will certainly look at getting one. I have seen a piece of software that is coming soon that enables speech recognition with Wacom and Photoshop, although I have a suspicion it will require the new tablet which will be an expensive gizmo to have just so it recognise voice commands...

Hi! You can't bind 'space' since it's not a modifier. The best thing I found to do is to hotkey whatever key you needed to be 'space' to another key and bind that instead.

It works beautifully but I am wondering if I have to have HID Macros open every time I want to use my number pad shortcuts?? I can’t say I’m sure HIDMacros can be application specific.... since making this video I found I needed more keys than what a numpad could offer and got one of these instead: www.amazon.com/dp/B075ZSZJHH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rDTpCb6DW9AFP It comes with a macros program that you download from their site and it allows for multiple macro load-outs which might help you for program specific hot keys. It’s also a lot more simple than HIDMacros. Hope that helps!

I want to create a keypad shortcut like this but I’m worried it will not work with the iPad Pro. I use clip studio paint for drawing and you can program shortcuts, but I’m not sure I will be able to program the TAB, and COMMAND keys.

This tutorial was meant for PC only, sorry! When using Clip Studio on iPad Pro I use a bluetooth keyboard for shortcuts, and getting a bluetoth keypad might work but it's up to CSP if they allow you to bind shortcuts to the keypad's keys. I have seen some people using game controllers for iPad with CSP shortcuts, so maybe that would be something to try out instead.

Will using this program customize the "1" key only on the numeric keypad or will "1" on my separate keyboard do the same hotkey command and not type 1 like I need it to? Thank you!

Thank you so much!! The numeric pad numbers are listed seperately from the numbers above the qwerty so they will not cross over, 1 beside ~ will still be 1 if you hotkey 1 on the numeric pad to 'X'. It should also differenciate between the separate keyboard and keypads, but I may be wrong on that.

There are Bluetooth keypads and keyboards that work with the iPad and procreate specifically, like this one: amzn.to/41VAuzU I’m not familiar with ibis paint (yet!) but I think that procreate’s macros cannot be changed from the preset ones, so it works best with the keypads with those macros already in mind.

Thanks! Since “space” is technically a modifier key it cannot be changed. I suggest going in to the keyboard shortcuts in your program you want to use it on and set your desired shortcut to “space” and it will work just the same!

How did you map the move tool? I can't seem to find a way to write down the spacebar.

The best thing for using the move tool is to map the move tool to a different key than the space bar, then programming that new key to the numpad. Hope that helps!

Question,after remapping a keyboard, will the functions saved to the keyboard when i use it to a different computer? Or it will only work on computer were the program is installed?

The remapping will only be in effect on that one computer and only while the remapping app is open! Sorry it doesn’t transfer!

Hi! You can't actually bind 'space' since it's not a modifier. The best thing I found to do is to hotkey the key you need to be 'space' to another key and bind that one instead. Sorry, but I hope this helps!

I bought gmy keypad but it conflicts with the original keys on the keyboard :( EDIT: ok i don't know how but now it works. but can I set CTRL alone to one key? Like there is a way to use a button by holding it?

HIDmacros doesn't support actions where you need to hold a key down. Holding a key down after assigning it a macro just rapidly fires that macro as if you're hitting the key multiple times, from my experience.
