What kind of printer do you need to be able to print your own prints??

You don't need any special printer, just a regular inkjet or laser should do it, as long as it can print color your good.

How easy is the ribbon to work with after image has been put onto it? Can I use a regular iron if I don't have a heat machine

Yes, you can use a regular iron. After the image is applied to the ribbon it is a thicker more tougher material, it does not bend and fold as easily. You can still work with it but it's just a little harder is all.
