This is the simplest design I've seen so far. Great job.

I went a little more simple, but based off of his design. Cut a hole in the large bucket lid just enough so the small bucket's rim can fit snug in the hole. Use a compass with a needle instead of lead in it to scribe around and around until you've cut all the way through. That will make a nice perfectly clean hole. The rim of the small bucket can then be put through that hole down to it's flange, and the smaller lid can be snapped on which will hold it all together instead of using rivets. Cut the smaller bucket lid to have some baffle slots for material to drop through. Only a bit of the finest of dust makes it to my vacuum. You could possibly also use some silicon caulk to glue the buckets together if they don't form a good enough seal, but mine is fine without that. Just depends how precise the hole in the 5 gallon lid is cut. The negative vacuum pressure makes the small bucket suck down tight on the 5 gallon lid anyways if the hole is fairly precise. The small bucket has to have a flange and slight gap at the most between the flange and lid for this to work, but most small plastic paint buckets have that flange because the flange is also used for the wire handle's attachment holes. Not sure if his small bucket in the video didn't have that flange, or if he just cut the whole top off that bucket, but utilize that part of the bucket instead of cutting it off.

I watched your video and built one like it with a old homer bucket and smaller paint bucket. I can't believe how well it works. I am impressed.

I made it out of even smaller buckets because those were the only ones I had lying around and even than it worked!!! Massive thank you!!!

Great how to video!! I’ve been looking for someone that uses a smaller shop Vic with a DIY dust collector. I have a small Stanley shop vac, can’t wait to build this dust collector....Thank you for this video. 👍🏻

I was having trouble with my small home-type vacuum cleaner in my shop. Really thank you for this video. I will make one this separator first thing tomorrow! 👍👏

A second large bucket could make emptying this very easy. Trim the first large at about halfway (so it's open on bottom) and just leave it permanently attached to the lid. Drop the whole thing into the 2nd bucket. It still seals well, and you can just pick the separator assembly up any time you want to empty the bucket.

I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook kzbin.infoUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)

Really a very good job. I've only one sugestion based in my proper experience, be carefull not to block the hose of the vacum cleaner, normaly it collapses. Also you can do a very easy to do safety valve. There is videos about it. Thank you for share your videos and ideas. They are very useful.

I think the bent connector entering the cyclone bucket is a mistake… A turn is a restriction, so pressure in the flexible hose increases (or vacuum decreases)… Basically, that's a restriction that decreases efficiency. Cut that connector flush with the inside of the bucket. Otherwise, that 's a nice simple way to build one!

Excellent build. One question... what is the purpose of the baffle?
@XwpisONOMA7 жыл бұрын
The purpose of the "Thien" baffle is to aid in the separation of the dust particles which drop in the lower bucket without being sucked upwards in the smaller bucket thus preventing them from making their way to the vacuum cleaner and clogging the filter.

does the length of the hose matter? i made one based on this video and it works ok. but i lose way too much suction. It could be that the hose going from my hoover to the cyclone is too long. would that make a difference, do you think?

@burlisbastelbude23747 жыл бұрын
I'm affraid that the bucket can "implode" because of the vacuum. Is this bucket really strong enough?
@jokerace82277 жыл бұрын
A regular shop vacuum doesn't have enough negative pressure to cause the buckets to implode. A big industrial vacuum like cabinet and furniture fabrication shops use might be able to though. lol But, if you're using a big industrial central vacuum, you would probably want a much larger container anyways, perhaps one of those big blue 40-50 gallon thick plastic walled water storage barrels.
@demofactory6 жыл бұрын
As long as you don't block the intake hose completely, it should be fine. I built it, and it works very well.
@viliuzk7 жыл бұрын
what`s the purpose of that wooden piece inside?What does it do ? You called it baffle I think.
@fusion_x_frost38366 жыл бұрын
Vilius K it’s a thien baffle and helps to aid in separation of the dust so it doesn’t go into your vacuum.

I also doubt that just sealing the top tube simply with just silicon that it will hold up to things being unplugged from it on a regular basis, after all silicon is just a sealant not glue by any means.
