Great clip Darryl, looks like you’re a man with a good eye for detail, good workmanship and plenty of patience 😁😉👍 looks bloody fantastic ! Thanks for the kind words and shout out there - I wasn’t expecting it but really appreciate it so thank you. That Spotted Gum looks sensational mate, beautiful colour and grain variation - would be my favourite decking species of all ! Always looks great 👍. Those little premixed sample pots work a treat. With that Cutek, they used to make the CD50 and then the “Extreme” which was a heavier viscosity oil designed primarily for damper ( if that’s a word 😄 ) areas like around pools, down the south house of the house, areas that may not get a lot of sun and heat to dry out. They’re now phasing out the CD50 and making it all CD50 Extreme. It’s funny you mention the flashing off ( the surface evaporation rye ) how it takes a while - that’s the only, well not even really a disadvantage because it penetrates in so deep to protect, but downside I guess is it takes a bit longer to dry. Anyone using it - the main thing to remember is better to do several light coats and let them soak right in between coats otherwise the excess sits on the surface, takes weeks to dry and because it stays tacky, all the dirt, dust, pet hair etc sticks to the residual surface film. So light coats and you’ll never look back 😉👍 Great deck, great oil and great clip mate ... well done 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Good info - thanks. Where's Grants link? Never mind, I know Grants channel - really nice, knowledgeable and straight bloke and channel. If its an ad, he says so - simple.

I heard towards the end that you are putting in a platform, I was going to ask why you left the last step uncovered...answered!

What stain colour did you choose?

Well done, Darryl. Question: are the risers flush with the concrete, or did you use a spacer to give them a bit of clearance off the concrete? Perhaps moisture is not an issue, since the water will run off and not sit on the spotted gum materials?

I saw your previous video and that helped me heaps to install my new deck. No need to wash the spotted gum prior to oiling it? Cheers. 👍

Great hearing its coming along well. The spotted gum will leach some tannins after oiling, whether this matters to the surrounding areas on your deck is something you need to work out yourself. Use a deck cleaner to remove most of the tannins before oiling if it matters. A Cheap DIY cleaner is to add about 2 cups of Napisan (or a generic alternative that contains sodium percarbonate) to half a bucket of hot water. FWIW on our initial decking I felt the end result started to darken too much after a while so used the napisan cleaner, washed it off and gave it a rough sand before roiling with a 60% diluted colour mix of the original oil. Worked a treat.
