Excellent tutorial. I made the exact same skirt but shorter length last summer using linen fabric. The belt, brilliant idea. I have to find that fabric in my sewing closet and make a belt.

Thank you for subscribing and for the compliment. I have pictures of the final look on my blog, check the description box for the link to the post. I recently started adding videos of final looks to my tutorials, when I did this shoot for the skirt I hadn't thought of the idea yet. Next time I wear it I'll try to remember to do a video clip so I can add it to the blog post.

I made this skirt and the sewing is done well, however, it fits more full than I would prefer. Does it make sense to make the back two pieces to take a few inches off? Thank you in advance.
@kdbrantley7 жыл бұрын
You did a great job!!! How does the narrow belt make a difference on the waistband? It seems like the gathers would swallow the belt. Does it tie in the back? I want to make this to wear to a wedding in a different fabric. Thanks for teaching us your skill.
@MontoyaMayo7 жыл бұрын
kdbrantley Thank you! I like the narrower belt because I it allows me to still see the gathers in the waistband and have the look of a flat belt all in one. I think because I used denim, the belt was able to hold it structure and not get swallowed up, adding interfacing to another fabric could probably support in that area. You should definitely make this. What fabric were you thinking about using?

I just got thru wth the top half of my denim skirt, but haven't hemmed it yet. I was wondering if you have any suggestions for shortening my skirt, as I am 5'2 in height, petite, and have small hips, and when I tried the skirt on it practically swallowed me up, lol! I am thinking about making this knee length. It's SUPER CUTE, so I would like to save this any way that I can.😊
@MontoyaMayo7 жыл бұрын
michelle hill Wow almost done, that's awesome. If you want to shorten to knee length I suggest putting the skirt on with the wrong side out. Measure from the top of the skirt to where you want it stop and mark the point with some fabric chalk. After you take the skirt off add 1 inch for the hem and sew the same way I did in the video. I hope this helps. I can't wait to see your skirt!

Great tutorial. Easy, clear instructions. I subscribed. Was looking for jeans to long skirt tutorial and happened upon yours. I'm glad I did. I have yards and yards of different African print fabric in various colors and print. I'm a quilter, but this fabric will be beautiful in a skirt. . . . .and will still have PLENTY for my quilts. I will be watching your other vids to see what other inspiration I will happen upon. Keep up the great work inspiring us!

Thank you for subscribing!!! I'm glad you found me. Yes, use up those yards of fabric. You can even use your scrap and remnant fabric from your projects for your quilts
