DIY DevaCut | How I Cut & Color My Natural Hair

Hey guys! This video is sooo overdue but here is how I cut and color my own natural hair at home. I decided not to make this a "tutorial" because I have no professional training or experience cutting natural hair. I've grown up watching my mom do it a million times and I was able to watch a devacurl stylist cut my hair so I've picked up plenty of tips and was comfortable doing this on my own. If you aren't comfortable and don't know what you're doing I recommend going to a salon. HOWEVER, this is a great way to save money and get the job done at home. I simply shake my curls out and trim them like a bush until I get my desired shape! I also repeated this process on wet hair after washing and detangling to make sure that it was all even.

+Rochelle Osborne Just take your time and cut individual curls don't make any drastic cuts that you can't come back from lol. Slowly build the shape it's simple if you take your time and maybe get someone to help you with the back. Once you shake or fluff your hair out you should see curls sticking out that obviously need to be cut. Good luck!

I did this color a few days ago. It looks amazing if you're looking for a navy color. My hair looks black inside and navy in the light. The only complaint is that it bleeds everywhere. I did this on unbleached black hair like hers.

Your hair looks stunning! I have heard of how good Manic Panic is compared to regular hair dyes and I am dying to add a bluefish tint to my hair. But I do not want to damage my hair. Does that brand of hair dye have any bleaching properties in it?

+Queen Toshe I would do it on a twist out like she did so that you can better see what kind of length you're working with as you cut it. I cut my hair dry while it's twisted, but I might try this method so that I can better see the shape of it.

+Jessica D oh oh and also...beware of when you sweat or after washing your hair the dye is dye...not permanent so it will bleed a bit. put down a towel on your bed. My mom recently wanted to try a color--she chose Blue and a little came off on her towel.

Some people shouldn't go following these you tubers. They know what they are doing and also it never is as simple as it looks on there. if you have history and ur own experience with hair the by all means this dose not include you. I would suggest practice cutting on curly wigs too..cuz if u have no I idea with what ur doing then butchering is what ur gonnna do to ur har

your hair looks really happy. I thought about going to deva curl place, but my hair texture is just not deva girl friendly. I think I'm 4b and my hair doesn't curl it just squiggles, and it's then so clumping isn't the best option. big twist and pined up styles are what I'm going to be wearing, until my hair start growing back again. I would love to have a cute shape up, but my hair just isn't doing it so, my plan it just to grow it out with the this, and then when it get tail bone and longer, I'll be doing braid outs. They will probably look fuller if I have longer hair. For me, lots of prayer, moisture, and protective styles, and fruit are my best friends when it comes to hair growth.

The conditioner you add to the dye should be silicone free btw So it doesn't ruin the dyes effect on your hair.

I have this dye but have been nervous about putting it in my hair. How long does it last? Is it runny? Should I shampoo before adding it to my hair. I may just do this for easter Sunday.

+Mira L the Manic Panic dyes that are cooler toned like blue and green don't last too long depending on how bleached/light your hair is. The colors with red undertones like red, burgundy and purple last much longer and it can be hard to strip them from the hair if you want to completely get it out. For the first couple washes the water will kinda be the color of the dye you used (especially the red undertones, the cool tones start to rinse clear by the 2nd/3rd wash). I do not shampoo before dyeing my hair but the instructions say you should for best results!
