I build one of these for a friend of mine. He ordered it and I made two days of test on it, and it turns out fine. I took the unit out of the case and track the traces for the on/off switch, so I could add a connector for a second switch. So he added a push button in the front of his workbench to turn on and off the output of the PSU easily :) For myself I have one of these really heavy and powerful PSUs you showed at the start, cause they can handle a lot ot current peaks and provide enough power for my projects. Also added a socket for an external on/off switch. If you don't need this for your projects, you will be fine with your self build one :)

Thats so awesome hope they getting full use of it, yea this one meets my needs at the moment, but send me the one you have if you don’t mind, I might get a higher current one later when needed.

wait so... the only thing you actually used from the busted ATX supply was the case/shell/box? I have a broken one (doesn't turn on) and I'm wondering what could I salvage from it, or perhaps what could I rip off from it, so perhaps I could use it as a merely rectified DC output...
@JustBarran Жыл бұрын
Well my original plan was to try and fix it and use it as the main recitfied voltage. And the reality of it the effort was not worth it for me to fix it, so I did the next best thing which is gut it out and use what I can. The rectified dc output would be great to put into the little digital power supply once it us under the voltage

Question...if I have a 600w PSU. I am wanting to hook it up to a LiPo battery charger. The PSU output is 12v @ 49A. The charger will accept 7-27V @ 30A. Is there a way for me to get that many amps out of a buck converter?
@JustBarran2 жыл бұрын
Buck if you mean boost? Why can’t the lipo charger not work with the 12v directly?

I could make one of these, I mean I must have 100 atx power supplies around here, but I also have six Toolkit M8's that cna take any voltage DC and convert it to any other output voltage DC... so... meah. I standarized on the XT=60 connector, so I can plug as many of them in that I want into a 24v server power supply using XT60 balance boards. All I have to do is solder up a small cllection of cables to have handy to plug whatever into whatever with XT-60 male female at either ends... I bought 2 buck converters just for applications where I want to set the voltage and never change it ever again.
@JustBarran3 жыл бұрын
hahaha if you have so much, best you make a store and sell them. I normally have a set of buck converters for the same thing and use a bit of glue gun on the POT to make sure the voltage doesn't change.

@@JustBarran Nobody in the US is going to buy 200=300watt ATX power supplies from the 486/Pentium days. My dad use to bring truckloads of computers home at a time. So, every 8 bit computer imaginable as well as Macs, etc. I would of built a bench supply like you a few years ago, having seen many how to videos just as yours buying a step up step down glass panel converter and old power supply... But now that I've been in the quad copter hobby for a year, the Lipo chargers can all convert from one voltage to anything you want on the touch screen.. you just chose "Output" instead of "Charge". Love my TS-100, get yuourself one or a knock off like the D60 .. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4fUdoeOj7-VbKc fpv.air-war.org

I was thinking about that, I may add it in another video. I could use a LM35 and a comparator and a transistors

Nice storytelling. This is what I lack above all things 😥. In other news. The runout on that variable chuck on your Dremel is poor compared to the 1/8 inch collet that is normally used for the tool; yes I have 2 such chucks. It induces vibration that can make the Dremel hard to hold in certain circumstances. This might be why your hand was unsteady.
@JustBarran3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha thanks, I have the collet, I just find the chuch easier for swapping cause I don’t need the wrench, but I understand what you saying I feel I would just leave the collet next time and see if it’s better cause it was running away from me a lot. Thanks again for the advice, also you from Trinidad right ?
