Holy cow! This was so fun to make! I love how it turned out. I used black puffy paint because it’s what I had on hand and did the metal accents in gold instead so I didn’t have to go buy paint! We didn’t have a foam ball so we just used model magic for the eye too!

I had some plastic eyeballs i ordered off of Amazon for another project (Mad Eye Moody eye patch). I cut those in half using a hot knife. It was perfect!!

I love the use of paper towels for a leather-y look! Someday I want to try making a VAMPYR book like Giles has in Buffy-- while it might make sense to invest in some other material, I might give paper towels a shot when I make a mock-up. I love your bookbinding videos so much and they inspired me to take a bookbinding course in my graduate program and it's been my favorite course to date. Thanks again for the awesome content!

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!! And my 27 year old son (stone faced young man of few words) grinned when he saw it and said "Aw Wow. That's cool alright." Brilliant. A great way to make card look like leather is - take a spray bottle and put in about 5 parts water to 1 part glycerine (not from bakers just from chemist - cheaper) and shake it up together. Spray card with it and rub it in gently with your hand. Do this on both sides and give it a minute. Come back and scrunch it up a bit. Keep doing this until you get it as crumpled as you want. Then lay it flat and let it dry. It should look like leather and feel like suede or felt. I love the way you do it too.
