Thank you so much for this video. So many channels make this look easy, and it is helpful to know what can go wrong and how to fix it. The final case looks very beautiful. I am just getting ready to build a book library with the billy - and your DIY is what I could probably pull off - thanks to you.

It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better kzbin.infoUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

I commend you for sticking with your DIY. Painting tip for next time: use a small short nap roller for furniture to paint large areas. It will go soooo much faster.

This video is the truth! I know that I would start something like this and it would take me a month to finish. I'm so glad that you were honest about your struggles and what it took to end up with a piece that looks handmade furniture. Saved for future reference!

Mini, as somebody who used to work in a factory for 41 years, building assemblies, making work instructions for the assembly line as well teaching new hire classes for soldering and assembly processes, I would have recommended the same thing as the person you were watching, paint first. You could always determine from the pieces what is going to be seen and not seen. Painting something that is vertical is so much easier than painting some thing that is already assembled in a horizontal position. As you could see, you had to lay on the floor to get to some of the areas.. I watched another KZbin hack where someone painted it after it was all put together. I looked at my husband and said, why didn’t they paint that before they started assembling it.? He agreed. He was an engineer where we both worked but does wood working as well. Unless you were spraying the paint. Just my opinion…

Good job. Food for thought and pocket... on your next adventure if it is Ikea furniture; make sure whenever you drill holes to keep from having the frayed holes, (blow out), put some painter's tape on either side and drill through it. I know how you feel doing it alone. I did my entire closet system w/ the same doors by myself. It was tiring but so worth it. Don't give up..you got this.. the next time you will know what short cuts to take. Congratulations.

Great step by step diy! Agree it's best to do your priming and painting after you put it together...you save a lot of time and materials. Great job 👏

So happy and glad for you as you build, create, and make your mark on your home/life. You're giving so much encouragement and hope to many, showing them the worth of taking your time, that it's ok to learn new things, stepping out of a comfort zone, and to embrace more cost effective ways to get what you want. Just love you, you bring smiles 🥰✨️

It turned out really well. You used very similar fasteners to the ones I have and am planning to use next time I move (in about 1.5 years) and it was nice to see how it worked. I've been a bit nervous about maybe damaging the bookshelf when I drill through and I hadn't thought about clamping it the way you did. The one suggestion I would make for anyone else doing this is that if you have an odd number of narrow Billy units to attach each door from the same side (like hinge at the left and handle/pull at the right) and, if you have an even number to place the hinges left, right, left, right. It just makes it more symmetrical. (If you have the wider Billy units, you'll have to place the hinges on both sides because there will be 2 doors per unit.) But that was a great job and a *lot* of work! I have all white ones and am planning on leaving them white because they will be going in a hallway that doesn't get a lot of light and I want to bounce the light there is around as much as possible. (I'll also use mirrors in the area to bounce even more light around.) But the upside of that is...No. Painting. (LOL)

This looks great!! Anyone trying this use old Amazon boxes or packaging you get from stuff you order and prop the item you paint on top of it works like a charm!! I did that for my kitchen doors I sanded and painted them in the a garage. Also remove the tape once you paint within and hour and it won’t peel away your finished look. And use a small roller for no brush strokes. (Lots of projects trial and error over here for me can you tell?)😆
