This is absolutely gorgeous! 💝 I think it was smart to incorporate the Billy bookshelves and further customize it. This looks like a library you see in manors and rich grand-daddy caves. I’ve been eyeing the Billy bookcases to customize, and now you’ve inspired me. It’s so awesome seeing women build affordable, yet expensive looking custom DIY projects. Good work!

This looks amazing! I do wonder though how much benefit do you think you get from using the Billy bookcases? With this much additional material and customization being done it seems like at some point it would be easier and not cost much more to just build the shelves too. I don't know if this particular project is at *that* point, and maybe I'm wrong about the cost since lumber is pretty pricy. Just curious how this project stacks up with materials, customization concerns, and cost looking at using Billy bookcases vs just making custom built ins from scratch.

I'm just going to say it, I definitely have built-in envy, amazing Dad and friend who will actually show up and work envy but when you proudly displayed your Library ladder and railing, one of my dreams, all my silly envy transformed to sheer joy for you!!! I've been hunting for book cases on FB market place, WayFair, Amazon, 400 other online stores and of course Ikea... there's one gigantic monstrosity that I love on market place, that needs an 18 wheeler and 12 guys to move it!! haha And I was literally trying to figure out if it could handle a ladder and railing and how I could get creative! Though I doubt I'd ever get to use the ladder because I have a VERY bossy cat but it's so worth trying!! Was that an actual kit for a library ladder and railing. You guys did an awesome job! And it looks like you had fun too which is always an added bonus!! Enjoy them!!

Beautiful. All I could think about was the hiding places in the supports. I wonder if they would be able to hold two high as I live in a modern loft.
@jimgardner5129 Жыл бұрын
You're envisioning stacking the IKEA bookshelves two high? So, like 12' high of storage? Sure you could do that! The supports this team installed would easily hold it all together, safely. Just make sure the supports are affixed to the walls' studs. You could even flip the top cabinets upside down so you wouldn't have to stare at the plinths / toe kicks at eye level. The plinths could be hidden behind molding at the top. You'd still have to apply some type of trim where the top and bottom cabinets meet, across from left to right. I think that could look fabulous. I'm actually a little jealous at the thought of it. :)
