DIY Dog Car Seat Tutorial

In this tutorial I will show you how to make a center console dog car seat.

I did this it works AMAZING thank you so much! It's so cheap. also what I did was I put it on a side seat, and I had a harness with the leash and I hooked the leash to that little hook on the ceiling so it's a little safer :)

That turned out really well! I was thinking about doing something like this but I thought the Tupperware might crack so I think I’m gonna use a milk crate but my dogs a little bit bigger also you could use a milk crate with some padding in the bottom and that way you wouldn’t have to hang it from your seat it could just sit there and be buckled in just an idea

Most certainly!😀 posey is always in a harness which is buckled to the car seat! Safety first! This is just a way to prop her up and keep her in one area. It's like a little traveling dog bed!

May I make a suggestion, instead of reheating a rod to make slots, use a pencil soldering iron. You don't need to keep reheating.

If you have a wreck with a dog in any doggie seat in the front of the car it is very likely they will be injured or killed. (Air bags.) It is a chance you have to decide on for yourself.

Wow that’s exactly what I pictured making for my chihuahua Lexie to see out the windows better when we take her for rides. Otherwise she crawls up onto the back of moms neck to see out and it gets irritating having a dog wrapped around your neck when your riding..lol thanks for the design..

I forsee a dog hanging over the edge of the box by the neck. If you hit the brakes suddenly or are in an accident there is no safe way for the dog to stay in place. a top cover with an opening just big enough for pooch to look out. Pooch is enclosed and can not be flipped out during a hard brake.

The problem is like for example my yorkie was also very small as a pup so that was ok, now she is able to stand on it, and put her paws on my shoulder! so I believe a deeper version is needed now! same width but deeper...any suggestions guys?

Unlikely that your stitching on the teather is going to hold up under the force of a major car accident, which means your dog is going to go flying into the dash. Google "dog harness crash tests" and see what that looks like. Most harnesses on the market don't hold up to a crash test. My dog only wears a Sleepypod harness which connects directly to the seatbelt. You also need to think about the airbag that's going to smack your tiny little dog in the face and most likely kill her.

I wouldn’t recommend doing this because yes it is cute but what is going to happen to your little dog if you get into a crash? She will either fly through the windshield or the plastic tub can’t get crushed and stab her. Yes dog car seats can be expensive but when it comes to your pets safety I feel like no expense is to much.

OK I will be the one to say it. Having a small doggie strapped in on the centre consol of the seats not secured by an approved and tested harness, will have that poor dog FLYING through the windshield when in a head on collusion. It’s really cute and dandy what you want to do for your dog but if you love that little face enough, you will NOT have her sit between the two front seats in a home made box. She may weight 10lbs now, but on impact she is like a cannonball weighing so much more, causing so much more damage to herself, and possibly you and your vehicle. BAD idea. Very very bad idea!!!

I think its a great idea! I wish I had started one before my trip tomorrow! I dont know why people have to leave such rude comments they should just keep their mouth shut if they don't like it or think it's safe! They obviously haven't seen ones on the market using the same tethering system and all foam with very little height and the dog has less protection. Those are the type of people we are protecting our dogs from on the road... Idiots! Also no one says that you have to make it exactly just like you do... They're just not creative enough on their own! Too lazy to record their own tutorial because selfishness is plaguing them!
