Great job Vickie. I'm sure Hans loves that and should last for years. I was surprised the circular saw struggled. I'm guessing lack of power and possibly the blade could be the cause. Little tip when applying the paper template to save so much sanding, lay masking tape down first then glue to the tape. You can then peel off what is remaining meaning a lot less and easier sanding. Well done!
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the tip, Paul :) I have wondered if it was the guard not opening enough on the narrower side I tried to start on, but I'm no pro. The battery was fully charged too.

Had the same issue the other day on thin ply... but because I needed to trim 5mm off, the guard struggled to open. So, now I know if I tried to cut further down, I wouldn't have had a problem 😊

It's about to hit winter here in Australia and my cheeky dog ( he was rescued off of the street so we had no idea he is an obsessive cheer of all things chewable ) is in need of a new kennel. He has gone through several dog kennels...*sigh* Looking at this one I am seriously stoked to make it for him. As I homeschool two teens we are going to incorporate this into our 'Woodworking' studies. You are a genius and hopefully ( fingers crossed ) we will be able to keep you up to date with our progress, too. Thank you so much.

When using a circular saw, set the depth to just deep enough to cut the material. It stops it from snagging.
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip 😊
@mburton53655 жыл бұрын
Hi Vikkie, when using a circular saw ensure that you have the material you are cutting supported as close to the cut as possible to prevent snagging. This happens when the material dips down on one or both sides of the blade and traps it causing kick back. Can be scary first time it happens to you. As posted by another commentator, set the blade depth so it is a few mm more than the material you are cutting. If you have some scrap wood you can put underneath your cut it will prevent most of the tear out and give a nicer finish. Keep up the good work.
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK5 жыл бұрын

On a different note; I see you got that horrible dead stuff in the fir tree you were cutting. A few months ago I came accross a DIY tip on Pinterest that suggested a 'weak' solution of water and a little squirt of Fairy (half a litre - little squirt :-) Then spray it over the affected area (not in the rain) and leave well alone. The brown drops OFF and new stuff appears like magic!! ..... Hope this helps, and I'm sure Hans will be forever grateful for you carpentry skills :-)

Love the dog house! And always enjoy watching your channel......but have a couple of suggestions re your new circular saw: - while you can use the narrow side of the saw’s base plate (when no choice) against a fence to trim down boards, it’s better, if you can to use the wide side of the base plate against the fence....makes for less wobble as more surface area supporting the saw. So in your case you would turn the boards round so you can do your cuts on the right side (as you faced the board) rather than the left - with some spare board and wood, make a zero clearance track for your saw! Lots of vids on YT showing how. Then much quicker and easier to do accurate cuts compared to clamping a straight edge, as you just line up the edge of the homemade track to where you actually want to cut, clamp it down, set the saw depth and run the saw along it( on the saw’s wide side)! Hope this is helpful? Keep up the great work!

I especially love the routering, I purchased a router myself a few weeks ago now, but have put off using it, did you do a few practice runs with it or just go for it 1st time round, I always put off using power tools cause of the noise as I live on a housing estate and think the noise draws attention and the neighbours prob thinking wat is that woman up to now... Lol...
