I really like how your screen is not hung too high. I feel like most people hang their screens all the way up to the ceiling. This past year I lowered my screen by like 4-5" and installed a 9' black velvet wrapped acoustic panel on my ceiling. Biggest upgrade I have ever done by far. It enhanced the contrast and the sound quality. Good stuff man.

200 pound subwoofer, I love it! Lesson learned, put in position first before filling it with sand :)
@dmdane4 ай бұрын
What's the function of the sand?
@2000thx4 ай бұрын
@@dmdane it's actually not sand. The particles are much bigger than sand. RBH calls it "G.A.D.S. (granular acoustic damping system)." The granules serve three purposes: they add mass to the cabinet so it doesn't move but the driver does, it firms up the cabinet walls making them inert so they don't color the sound of the speaker with vibrations, and finally the space that holds the granules is open to the rest of the cabinet with an acoustically transparent barrier so sound waves can enter the granule cavities and get absorbed into the spaces between the the granules. So, mass loading the cabinet, firming up the cabinet walls and absorbing internal sound waves.

This is a really cool video detailing your awesome setup! The only question that I still have is where is your equipment room located in regards to your auditorium? Also I do think you should get rid of that screen, build a fireplace and then hang a 32 inch TV high above the fireplace. That's the only way to truly do it right.

@mfkhometheater77424 ай бұрын
Nice job Shane! Yes, go DIY on additional subwoofers, personally I don't use any commercially built speakers, I do all the speakers DIY. Of course I've been building my own speakers for about 50 years and it's hard to change old habits🙂 I need to check out that remote app you're using, easy of use is currently the biggest issue I have in my theater. I have the new Sofabatan and I think once I get it all set up it may work fine but my plan was to ultimately use Home Assistant. The app you're using however looks like it might work really well for me. I'm glad you mentioned there is no issue with the dispersion on your 2-way height speakers. I'm working on ideas for Atmos and I'm considering a 3-way design using two 6.5" drivers, a 2" Dome mid, and possibly a small AMT or maybe just a small dome tweeter. The 2" dome mid would allow a crossover in the 700 ~ 800 Hz range and would provide a nice dispersion compared to something like the Dayton Reference 1" dome tweeter crossed closer to 1500 Hz. I suspect the ribbons in yours is crossed higher higher than 1500 however and you haven't experienced any issue with it. So I might go the two way route, although I have a bunch of those Dayton 2" domes in inventory so I don't know, maybe I'll still use them. Great theater tour, you have an amazing setup!
