A friend just asked me if I could build an 18” x 24” drawing board for him, so here I am looking for some addl/alt ideas to what I had in mind. No need to look further. Very nicely done - kudos to you for a very functional and simplistic solution! PS: Hate it that folks have to leave negative comments.... sigh .... if it’s any consolation, new subscriber here! 👍🏻

Would be worth noting a couple of things on this vid: 1) this can all be done with hand tool ie hand saw, just the cordless drill is needed. 2 ) that pivot point on the support arm looks to be a partially threaded screw so that the portion going through the hole in the arm is smooth with clearance, so the screw doesn’t turn and chew up the wood. Thanks for the vid 👍

I‘m late, but here‘s what I‘m working with. I‘ll start building it this evening. Top board is 40x60 cm with a 2cm edge at the bottom. Frame is built with 34cm and 46cm bars (3x4) , making the whole frame 34x52. The holes for adjusting on the sides are 5cm apart each. The adjustment assembly is 3x2x46 at the top, 2x2x45 for both sides and a round piece with ø1x54 cm for the bottom. Hope this helps :)

The round crossbar must be longer so that it is easier to grip when the table is down and unfolded. with the short roundbar, you can always look sideways until you can grab it. It is not a blind way to grab it. That bothers me a lot.

On The Workbench I have a jigsaw without guides and no vice. I really like your video and want to make this drawing board! I can get four sessions at a workshop for $200, but at that price I might as well buy one. Any advice for limited resources and tools or on making nice straight cuts with a handsaw? I could easily buy the drill bits necessary. Cutting is my main concern.
@ontheworkbench87434 жыл бұрын
@@edvoorhees4253 I would recommend finding yourself a piece of wood, mark out loads of straight lines an inch or so apart and start cutting., practice is really the only way to get good at cutting straight lines by hand, it's not that hard though, you will master it in no time! As for limited resources, you don't need many tools to get into woodwork, a handsaw, drill, 2 or 3 chisels, a plane and maybe a coping saw for cutting curves. Try to purchase them used in local ads or ask around, plenty of people have these tools lying around in their sheds. Machinery only speeds things up, you'll learn so much more from using hand tools first.

Hi, I wish I had a factory! This was done in my small workshop which use to be my bedroom! Yes I have a bandsaw and drill press but these are not needed to make this, it just helps speed up the process but you can use a hand-saw and any drill you have. My suggestion for you would be to make a board with strip of wood like I do in the start of this video, then paper can rest on it! Thanks for watching.

natural wood is a terrible drawing surface. you need hardboard, polycarbonate, treated mdf, sheet metal, or something stable and smooth. no draftsman or artist could use this. even if you tried to finish the surface with urethane, you would get shrinking and sinking over time that would be terrible draw straight lines on.

Video is great yes. But I wouldn't call it DIY if you're using so many pro-end stationary tools that the average Joe doesn't have. In that case a factory production line is just as much a DIY when handled by one man.
@ontheworkbench87435 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thanks for your comment! Yes, I have a bandsaw, drill press and sanding machine, however these merely speed up the work. All pieces in this little project can be cut using a handsaw, drilled with a hand drill and shaped/sanded using sandpaper.
@SeguraJ925 жыл бұрын
You'd be surprised what you can build with a hand saw, a hammer, some nails and wood glue. All of which are the most basic tools needed for this project.
@dutchy1314 жыл бұрын
It's a great video, I'm not at all used to woodworking but I feel like I can confidently put it together using just a hand drill, any kind of saw and some wood glue and screws(you can get wood cut to size any place you're able to get it anyway if you're so inclined, but it just doesn't matter you make the dimensions whatever works Other things like a band saw etc just speeds up and makes the process of building easier.
@rockinleather28714 жыл бұрын
Dear Lord, really? DIY stands for "Do It Yourself" and that is exactly what he is doing. The tools just make things easier. I have all those tools and more and guess what? I still do the projects myself. DIY get it. GREAT video by the way and keep up the good work.
