The blue tape is a must. I do my driveway every year and mask it off by my garage. I hired a sealcoat company to do it this year because I got lazy. They sprayed it on and did not broom or squeegee it in. I will be redoing it before fall as their process did not fill the cracks at all. Lesson learned.

I have sealed multiple driveways myself, and i find that the paintbrush for edging is fine, also I do squeegee, but I add a step, I take a rough surface roller and I roll the sealer. This gives the driveway a unified coat, but also eliminates the lines you get from the squeegee. You don’t have to do it but I like the look after rolling.

Hey man, quick tip for if you decide to seal your driveway again, wear waterproof rubber boots and after say you edge and seal the top half of your driveway, walk back up to the top and do a finish brush going side to side down the driveway, sealing over your footprints as you go down and then repeat the process after the second half is edged and sealed. It makes it have a lot cleaner looking finish. Great video though you gave some great tips!

At 5:38 you say "And it's not going to be reusable, trust me." (The squeegee) That is not true. Just a friendly FYI for everyone. Yes, you can reuse it. I have a very large driveway and I ended up doing it over several weekends. All you need to do is rinse the sealer off with water. I also used a putty knife to carefully scrape off any residue that wouldn't easily rinse off and yes, I was using the same exact sealer as in this video. Otherwise, good layman's terms video.

You don’t need a degreaser. You don’t need half of the stuff he is using. Go to professionals not a KZbin video to do this. Professionals don’t go to Home Depot and get sealed they get it straight from the plant it’s made from. Never get the driveway sprayed they only use 25% material and the rest is just water. One last thing you can always reuse the squeegee just make sure the rubber doesn’t stay bent when it is stored it will stay bent, and their not cheap. But all in all go to professionals to get an amazing job. This video is good to see how much your job will cost if your really new and you haven’t been quoted. the company explains how the job will be completed and how long to stay off of the driveway.
@stevenwagner86074 жыл бұрын
The plant doesn’t make the shit my friend they simply put it in your tank lol and everyone sprays them now ! Just because you can’t afford the sprayer doesn’t mean the other guys can’t ! With a broom your job would do the same thing this guy did !!!!

Coming from a guy who does asphalt sealing as a job this looks great. I do recommend that you seal in a back and forth type way so that you cover everything twice from opposing angles. With a newer driveway such as yours it isn't as worn and pitted so it didn't matter as much ,but as time goes on if you were to only seal from the one angle some spots will not get hit with sealer. Also check if your sealing products contain Coal-Tar, this is a known carcinogen (cancer causing) element. If possible use a Coal-Tar free Asphalt Emulsion. Works just as well without the risk. There is more too I could say ,but as a DIY this is top level.

nice job. three pointers. 1. to stop future weeds coming in. bury a timber or plastic strip at least 100mm deep at the edge of the driveway to prevent grass coming under the driveway from the lawn. use weedkiller on the grass already coming through, and leave it for 2-3 weeks to ensure the roots are dead. 2. do NOT use a petroleum based degreaser as it will eat into the existing bitumen - it will dissolve the binding agent in the bitumen. use a detergent based degreaser. 3. The cold mix material you laid for the drainage is a great idea as well as the sealer you put under it as a binding agent. however, the cold mix is made by adding a small amount of a petroleum agent such as diesel to the bitumen in the cold mix to keep it supple (in the factory). it is best laid when there is sunlight. stretch it out and let the sun warm/soften it a bit more , then place and tamp it exactly as you did (or you can cut and dig a small trench and place it into the trench to prevent the possibility of it shifting when you drive over it. once laid, sweep a very small quantity of sand over it to lighten the colour (absorbs less heat from the sun and wont stay as soft) and eliminate surface tackiness. leave for 2-3 weeks for the diesel to evaporate - then seal it as you did. you will get a sturdier job. well done.

I have asphalt in my garage. Do I need sealer?
@BYOTools4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking Max. If you garage is indoors and not out in the elements then I would say no. The sealer I used mainly helps to protect the asphalt from seasonal weather changes. Thanks for watching and keep up the great work on your channel.

@@BYOTools Ah I see. The asphalt is very easy since you don´t see any dirt and stains, but on the other side it is also not as nice and smooth as epoxy.

How about pay the extra cash and have someone else do it also us sealcoaters don’t use that cheap garbage sold in stores

Sometimes people ask to much for services. Therefore the people do it themselves

Because you guys are crooks.

We are far from crooks. Have you worked over 14 hours in a day of nothing but wire-brooming or using a wire-wheel? Spraying a full 1000 gallons of sealcoat on the grand? Us in the sealcoat business are far from crooks.

@@hammy1770 no seal coat has sand and clay in it. The sand and clay is used to adhere to the asphalt and to fill in the rock. So seal coat tanks have big agitators in it to mix the sand and clay. This stuff he is using is what you call driveway dressing. Pretty much a paint that makes it look good but does not help the driveway in terms of longevity. Seal will fill in the bumps and help your asphalt last better.
