Huge THANK YOU dude! This video saved me >$1500! I changed the thermostat and pump on my 2013 X5 this weekend using this video as a guide and everything went smoothly. This was the only video I found online that was A) super detailed and B) showed the procedure in a home garage doing the work on your back (not a lift). I ordered the kit from FCP Euro. Couple of call outs for anyone doing this in 2022: 1) the latest water pump from FCP Euro has rubber grommets and aluminum bushings in the water pump mounting holes. This is different than the OEM pump, but everything still goes together the same way. 2) When reinstalling the rad fan, the lower radiator hose causes an interference about halfway down. Have a helper hold the hose out of the way (aka my wife - thanks hon!). I took my time and followed the video step-by-step. One tip, I used a tiny bit of silicone lube on the rubber hoses when putting everything back together. There is very little leverage to push the hoses onto the thermostat. I did the project over a weekend and triple checked everything. No leaks, car runs great! The original problem was rad fan running on hyper speed sounding like a jet engine taking off. I wouldn’t say this is a beginner DIY. But, if you are handy with cars, can visualize the solution, have all the right tools (i used extensions, universal sockets, stubby flex head ratchets, E sockets, euro screwdriver bits) and confidence in your skills you can do this if you take your time, stay focused and be patient. FYI, my X5 has 117K miles - so pretty good run for the original water pump. I am so grateful to have found this video and do the repair myself - THANK YOU!

Great video...thank you for taking the time to document this procedure the tooling needed. My E70 3.5i x-drive was intermittently overheating and this seemed like a logical place to start as the car wasn't displaying a CEL or trouble code. One question...when bleeding the system I start the procedure and the pump runs for about 10 seconds then stops. I've tried several times with the same result. The bleed stream does run when I start the engine and there are no bubbles returning to the reservoir. I'm not sure that the system is properly bled and don't want to take a chance of overheating...looking forward to your future videos!!
@Zeiten2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback, regarding bleeding it’s ok for the pump to do that, it will turn on and off during the bleeding procedure, but it’s totally fine to start the engine and let it idle with cap off and heater on for about same time

How did you end up finishing the bleeding process? I had similar issue you described here. I started bleeding procedure and the car turns off after bleeding 10 seconds. Seems like not a bleeding related issue, but rather a car on/off issue. Thanks!

Hey, thank you so much for making this video. I would have been without a vehicle for who knows how long if you didn't make this walkthrough. So thank you very much! I am curious if you have ever seen this issue before, and if so, what I should do about it. Once I finished the job, I initiated the coolant process like you showed on your video, but my vehicles battery ended up dying while it was burping the lines. I can't remove the keys out of the ignition, and I've had it on a 12v trickle down charger for 12 hours and it still has not changed the state of the car. Do you have suggestions for what I should do in this situation? Hoping I just need a new battery. Anyways thanks for the tutorial!

Fold back seats that should do it, if they are not foldable then connect jump starter under the hood that should power up the car then you can just open the trunk, there might be a trunk release handle inside the the trunk might be accessible through the back but will take some gymnastics😁

Excellent vid and I have watched a number of them from start to finish. My 2017 M2 (138,000km's/ 85,000 miles) has just told me she might be about to crap her water pump (either it is that and/or the battery) so I don't want to take any chances and will be replacing both WP and Tstat as you have but I wanted to ask if it's the same procedure on an F series? Also, did you get an engine temp warning at all? I got both orange and red warnings so put my car through ISTA and cleared the errors since it appeared to be related to the aircon running but it would help if you thought they were related to the battery as well. I understand a weak battery can throw a code due to weak voltage at the water pump.

Tried to pressure test this morning @ 15 psi and it held 15 psi over 20mins no change? My question is does the thermostat need to be open to complete the test? Is the test only putting pressure up to the thermostat and not beyond? Was expecting to see pressure dope quickly giving all the coolant that came out...thoughts?

I agree there are lots of times when you can use your best judgment on torquing of bolts but those pump bolts are made of aluminum and you don't want to mess around with guessing they have a torque spec to set them and then an angle torque to make sure you don't snap them right off. Just saying.... 35yrs of experience breaking bolts off....lol

A year ago , the mechanic replaced the electric water pump as well as the thermostat ,, exactly a year ago ,, when i got my bimmer back, had no cold air, ,had a huge argument with the mechanich but he said he didnt do anything to the AC sistem, anyways, now it shows a "coolant low" message, i added some, less than a liter,, message gone but yet there is some leaking , what could it be?? Is it too soon to the water pump to be broken? ,or thermostat not working?? A hose?? I barely use this car, im tired of spending too much money on repairs, just did the pan gasket, got charged 1600 bucks!!

Hi zeiten it's me again. My bmw e70 is overheating is it possible the culprit is the waterpump? I drove only for a mile then it alarms high temp.
@Zeiten Жыл бұрын
Easily can be, get it scanned, other sign of failed water pump is fan going full blast, sometimes doing it with short intervals
