I use bar soap to mark fabric such as your paneled lampshade. Use it towards the end of the bar, the edges will become thin. I describe it as ‘down to a sliver’ Especially visible on patterned textiles or dark fabrics.

Thank you. The templet idea is fabulous. So much simpler than rolling it around. I have two rectangle shades that are narrower at the top to the base. I’m having a solid colour but like the idea of contrasting cording. The questions I have is would you put TWO pieces of cording, one on either side of the edge or try placing it on the corner itself? Also how do I connect on top and base so it doesn’t show the connections as it’s twisted cord? I really don’t want to mess these up as can’t find the same shape shade and I’ve looked. Many thanks 😊

Im making one but lining it. The shade is scalloped top n bottom...I'm using a sheet for the lining. Also trim. So u spray adhesive as u put on ea section? What is your suggestion as to adhere the lining...in sections as the outer or what? I've made many shades but never lined them.

Mary, sorry for taking so long to get back to you… You could absolutely cover an existing shade with some sheer fabric to give it some brightness or texture but I wouldn’t use just a sheer fabric for your lampshade because most tend to be very flammable and not heat resistant. If you were going over an existing shade with it that would be 100% fine! Thanks for the great question!

Question here Jeri-Ann: Can either light-wght, cardboard or double thick alum. foil be used as a pattern also? Ticking fabric is so simple yet so rich looking! Little House on the Prairie one of my favorite shows. I wish the x's were simple now as they were then. Also would have liked to have a bedrm. in a loft where I could climb the ladder in the kitchen to reach it. I know what you're thinking Jeri-Ann! Yes, grandma would have a difficult climb now!LOL Sorry for my over zealous narrative. Back to the video- Thanks for enriching our history about ticking. I love the way that shade came out. How would a novice know, like myself, to brush said fabric up? INGENIOUS! Like all the suggestions that u gave us for trimming the shade. Thank you Jeri-Ann for the time and energy u put into instructing us 2 make this gorgeous shade!
