So excited that you’re making “simple”millinery flowers that don’t require expensive tools and turn out quite lovely. After many years of longing, I finally bought a heated silk flower making kit with different attachments. Even though this particular video is tool-free, I’d love to see you demo antique/vintage heated flower-making tools on natural fiber fabrics in the future. It makes me happy that you’re using natural fibers and not synthetics. Due to the “historical” nature of my own work, this is very compatible with the 19th century look I need to achieve.

These are very sweet. Do you have a guide to small flowers like forget me nots and buttercups or possibly more horn shaped flowers like azaleas or trumpet flowers?
@ByIlonaMillinery Жыл бұрын
Hello, for smaller flowers and trumpet flowers you will need some flower tools, here are some videos on the types of flowers you asked about: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5mmoGRnj9CJY5I kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKKopZKNnd-Fq8U

Let's hear it for maths! I had never thought about the Fibonacci sequence in flowers - that's fascinating!
@ByIlonaMillinery3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Maths is rather fabulous and manages to weave its way into millinery in fascinating ways 😊
@jennifergeorgia54453 жыл бұрын
@@ByIlonaMillinery Interesting you should say "weave" -- In her book "The Fabric of Civilization", Virginia Postrel posits that some mathematical principles such as division were first worked out by weavers figuring out how to center a design on a woven piece of cloth! (I always get cross when people assume women should be bad at maths -- I think it's in our blood.)
@ByIlonaMillinery3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like an amazing book! I shall add it to me to read list! I get quite cross at the same thing, although I myself am not the most amazing with actual numbers - but once I get rid of numbers and turn them into letters and algebra I feel quite comfortable.

We can't even get that Hombre' ribbon here in the USA at least from what I've seen
@ByIlonaMillinery2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! I think the one I use is manufactured in France. You may be able to find vintage ombre wired ribbon in the USA on Etsy?

Can I use this technique on Sinamay?
@ByIlonaMillinery3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bernice, I'll be honest and say I have no idea! I'm guessing the technique that you could try is the rolled edges, but I can imaging that that would be very painful on the fingers. Let me know if you try it and if it works!
