sergers make the edges clean and neat, and you can have a similar effect with a zig zag stitch. if you are going to start making a lot of your own clothes, that's when it is recommend to get a serger, but if not then just use a zig zag stitch on your sewing machine!

for most of the projects Yumi does soft cotton or cotton blend will work. also 100% polyester is ok, but it frays a lot more. in this video it seems like she uses 100% polyster when you start to sew use cotton blend in medium quality that is soft but not too transluscent. it'll work for most of the project. just think about how it should look at the end. e.g: ruffles, normal skirts : soft fabric, but still holds the form a bit vests: heavier, that doesn't wrinkles much evening dresses: fabric that FLOWS, tulle, satin etc. yukata, pleated skirt: 100% cotton, that is kinda stiff

hey just a thing to remember: add 10" allowance when you are measuring your waist along with the seam allowance. This will be for when you cut the diagonal (step two). Hope you guys don't make the same mistake I did the first time!! Have fun!
