Looks like that park is a goldmine for aquatic creatures. I'm jealous!

Can't lie, we got pretty lucky we found one as good as this. We keep trying to branch out but we keep finding ourselves coming back to this one. We definitely found more isopods though than we previously did, the only downside being that there are insane amounts of snails that we had to very carefully attempt to avoid. It definitely helps that it's not as cold out.

Charlie is such a cool animal, my second favorite amphipod is Charlie, and you can’t forget about the breeding Charlie’s

Yaay, hopefully there will be lots of little animals

I'm so early that 360p is haunting me. I will be back later after my cup of tea! Also, since you are into Amphipods. There is a saltwater variety and they are easy to find in the Tide pools. I took a pair myself, now during winter. One of them popped out children and died off. But I got a bunch now. Albeit the algae is everywhere.

We actually have some in our brine shrimp ecosphere, which we didn't see till after recording the footage the first time, but we got some cute clips of them for this Macro Monday! They're still alive despite the brine shrimp not making it. We even found a snail in there which we haven't been able to identify yet.

Great video as always! Always inspiring and is making me figure out a cheap container to make my own ecosphere!! Thank you for that!

Check out your local thrift stores, they can sometimes have some really neat jars and containers! We're glad we can inspire others to make an ecosphere of their own as well, it's definitely fascinating to watch.

That is A LOT of snails

They broke Travis' brain a bit I think. It simply couldn't process the sheer quantity of snails he was finding.

I'm jealous of those isopods...
@TerraTinkering6 жыл бұрын
All of the ones shown here were purchased from a isopod breeder in the United States, but we wound up spending around 100$ just on isopods when we bought them- so if it makes you feel any better they weren't found locally.

who would even want to dislike the video.
@TerraTinkering6 жыл бұрын
It's just the nature of youtube, everyone gets dislikes. I think some of our viewers with this video preferred us not breaking an ecosphere video up into different parts. I could be wrong on that, but I think in the future we'll try to consolidate it down more if we can. At the time we were just trying something new so we could show a bit more of the process, and we didn't want each video to be too long so we broke it up a bit. I don't take any offense to the few dislikes we have on it though- but I do sometimes wish people would comment why they disliked so we could know for sure and use it to improve down the road.

i have not come across a natural lake here in my city, all i have here is a manmade lake. will i still find this much life if i was to collect some from a man made lake?
@TerraTinkering5 жыл бұрын
I can't say if you'll find as much variety but it's still worth gathering from if that's your only option. We even had life appear in potted soil we put in a jar with some water!

Your spot has so many things that are fully aquatic, my park has sooooo many damselfly and caddisfly nymphs which I can’t take bescause they turn into flies
@TerraTinkering6 жыл бұрын
Aww that's unfortunate, and of course, the larvae is aggressive and will eat just about everything else it can in your ecosphere. Maybe there's another park you could visit and gather from? We could send you some snail mail. Like, literal snails in the mail. Then you could start an ecosphere with that, haha.
@albiewoodhouse72466 жыл бұрын
Thanks but I’m unsure about the laws in Australia about shipping so we probably can’t do that.
@TerraTinkering6 жыл бұрын
Aww, that's unfortunate, I guess that just means more snails for us- not that we really need any more. XD

+celeste corner I'm sorry to hear that, was it too loud or just the beat of the music made it hard to focus on what we were saying? I'll try to keep that in mind for future videos. Thanks for letting us know though!

Terra Tinkering. It was more the beat/style of music. Thank you for your consideration. I love your content and always look forward to your videos. Keep up the good work!

Why you call them icopods, you way to technical just call them Rollie pollies
@TerraTinkering5 жыл бұрын
They're not referred to as rollie pollies when they're aquatic generally speaking, aside from that isopod is much quicker to say than rollie pollie, the scientific name though for aquatic isopods is Asellus aquaticus- but isopods is actually the less technical term of the two.
