Thanks, we really wanted to release a video sooner but Travis got sick first, then I did and we both pretty much entirely lost our voices. Actually, Travis had a bit of an allergic reaction to the Strep Throat and his face started swelling up and it became pretty dangerous, so we were under the weather longer than we expected to be. I'm super happy to be back and able to chat with lovely people like you though in our comments again! Thanks for sticking around Tim, it really means a lot to both of us.

There were more plants but unfortunately, some of them did die- the frog bit is still alive though and thriving. I'm glad the roots seem to have thinned out a bit because it was so dense it was causing major issues with us seeing into it before.

It's looking great! As for those snails, I believe I saw somewhere that amphipods will sometimes predate on snails, so they might be keeping the snail population down.

They probably predate the egg masses. I've never heard of amphipods killing and eating bladder snails, though.

spiders can life long periodes of time without eating or drinking....i personally dont think your theory is right, i rather think, the spider just starved....and couse they can take such long times without food....it starved slowly =P (sry for my english...as a said before...it is not my first language =D )
@TerraTinkering5 жыл бұрын
That is a much more depressing theory, but to be honest we didn't notice the spider until 4 months in, I think I'd seen some webs here and there and wondered what they were from- and it is a pirate wolf spider which is commonly found around water, so I'd like to hope that it would be able to hunt from the water as well, but maybe it couldn't. We forgot to mention that we had a lot of hydra too early on and we don't see as much of the smaller life- probably due to them being consumed by the hydra. I suppose that's the circle of life though. Also, your English was easy to understand- no worries buddy!
@scorchinggoat95893 жыл бұрын
they probably ate flies that he mentioned seeing in the jar in another comment
@kat369-mine5 жыл бұрын
I know it's impossible to accurately recreate the same conditions of the jar as it is now. But it would be interesting to see what would've happened if say you had 6-8inches of air space above the water. Would you have seen larvae grow into a flying insect. Even for a short life cycle. And if there were two....the circle of life. Every six weeks a couple more fly....
@TerraTinkering5 жыл бұрын
We did see a few random flies in the container briefly at different times, but they did eventually die as they had nowhere to go or reproduce, that or they were eaten. We never saw any dead fly bodies though.

I was wondering are you guys into plant growing including plants like vines,moss,succulents, and other plants?
@TerraTinkering5 жыл бұрын
We do a bit of gardening here and there, we do actually have a decent number of succulents and pepper plants. We tend to go for plants that create a food or herb we can use. Most recently we grew a bunch of garlic which is now fermenting in a heated incubator. We're turning it into black garlic!

I can't think of a video I haven't enjoyed from you. I'll look into sending you some soil and clay/mud from south Florida, but im not sure if I can ship anything that will keep more than microscopic life to you.
@elmikeomysterio54965 жыл бұрын
Checked link... Unfortunately i cant send anything. :( I live about 30min from tge everglades and they wont let us take soil and we still have that fruit fly bullshit going on.
@TerraTinkering5 жыл бұрын
That's awesome to hear that you like the videos that much! What are some of your favorite parts overall? Always looking to see what people enjoy the most so it's nice to get feedback ^_^. Oh darn! Those fruit flies sure have made it difficult for us. A lot of people that can send soil can't without having to chisel up frozen blocks of it for our more northern audience, and then others who want to can't because of tiny little flies! It honestly does mean a lot to me knowing you would send some if you could though, I really appreciate that. We also just barely are inside of restricted areas for sending, so we couldn't help others with the same type of project without driving a bit first haha.

@@TerraTinkering I think my favorite bits are seeing you first set up the terrarium from random stuff and the initial updates after everything settles. Its like one of those mystery toys you used to get in the little eggs in the 80s-90s. Always neat to see what you get.

I'd put my last dollar on the theory that the spider died of old age. Many true spiders only live a summer season as full adults and your Amphi-Pod spider looked mature. Males live even shorter lives than females and even if spiders can go weeks without food, true (non tarantula) spiders can't go months. Half a year, no way. He or she had a nice life in a terrarium utopia!
@TerraTinkering5 жыл бұрын
That's what we hope for sure, we never noticed it for a long while- at some point we noticed there were webs but it was pretty small so we didn't see it till shooting footage. If I'd seen it earlier I would have released it though.
