Electric skateboard is something I always wanted to build after watching Casey Neistat riding it :) So here it is! Those 4 days of building this DIY project were quite long but I got it working really nicely. There are still things to improve especially the battery, soon I will make a video about building your own DIY battery for an electric skateboard with 18650 cells. Keep in mind that I am really terrible at skateboarding or longboarding, so even this speed of 24km/h is really super fast for me, I need to practice riding it a little bit more :)

Your belt is slipping when you slow down because you probably have a cheap pulley kit from china which is usually 3m. You need a 5m belt and pulley setup. Also wider belt and pulleys is better since there is more contact area for the belt. Good luck!

Have you considered using a BLDC motor comparable to the one you use for the longboard as a 1 kilowatt CNC spindle? I've been contemplating the practicality of such a system, and would love to here your input. It seems like it would offer higher power with higher torque potentially for cheaper.

Nice, I used similar electronics for my build, only I used a keda 190kv 6364 motor from hobbyking and two 3000mah 3s lipos in series. It has plenty of torque, and I have climbed 20% hills on it, and the top speed is limited by the esc to 20mph. It cost me about £200 to build.

Hey Niko, not sure if you familiar with Loctite, you should definitely check it out. its a liquid that hardens and prevents the nut going loose from the bolt. There are 3 or 4 types of strengths, the standard one is the blue. I use it in all my vibrations prone assemblies and it helps a lot.

@nikodembartnik
@nikodembartnik 5 жыл бұрын
I don't understand it too, that's how they call it, I wanted to be clear about that. Maybe it's because you can't use it as any other ESC for example for a drone and that's why it's called substitute. Thanks!

great images, instructive explanations, great script! Honesty, seriousness and skills describe your posts. Keep it up! You deserve more than 25k subs but the figure climbed quite fast though. Let's talk about France and Poland once again. I pointed out months ago that Poland as a timber producer, makes easy to get everything wood. It's still the case. Friends of mine ordered ply wood in HUGE quantities for their projects (ambitious) directly from Poland, smoothly and rapidly delivered. It's not the case when you order those material through a local subsidiary which depends on... Poland too ;). Do you have to order your electrical/electronic parts always through banggood/dx/gearbest to list a few OR are there local repositories where you can get them as soon as you drive to their shops? On Strasbourg, France new Chinese individuals offer interesting stocks now. You don't have to wait weeks for modest electronic projects. Can't wait the final version of your spindle-based CNC. Thank you Nikodem!

For having safer brakes you can buy a VESC, plus you will have more control over you acceleration and max speed. This make the skate much more smoother to ride. I had a similar esc before and it worth the upgrade. If you decide to buy one, you will need to buy seperately a remote, a battery metter and a switch.

Great video. For cost effective battery, consider Hoverboard (aka Balance Board) Battery pack. It contains 20 cells of 18650 with a BMS, and outputs 20A continuous, it is a 10S2P setup, so 42v fully charged, roughly 800 watts of power. They can be found on Ebay (with Samsung / LG cells) for around 30USD. You can reposition cells for "slim look" pretty easily too. Amazing video. keep it up!
