Don't Miss Part 1: • DIY Epoxy Shower Walls...
RK3 Designs is a learning studio focused on teaching how to create beautiful epoxy finishes using Stone Coat Countertop Epoxy. These tutorials include epoxy countertops for kitchens, bathrooms, and much more. This channel provides tutorials for DIYers, contractors, designers, or artists.
Rhonda Dracoulis Founder and Primary Instructor
RK3 Designs started as a way for Rhonda to showcase her creativity but has blossomed into a way to help others find theirs. Her obsession with painting led her to start refinishing furniture and kitchen cabinets. She found customers wanted a nicer option than laminate but more affordable and customizable than natural stone, which lead her to countertop epoxy! Since then, she’s helped thousands of students, from across the country (and even Canada eh?).
If you prefer a more hands-on learning experience, book a class with Rhonda today: www.RK3designs.com/book-online RK3 offers numerous classes that cater to different levels of experience.

I used to build homes and done more than a few showers. I asked this question on stone coat's video but they didn't answer. Someone below asked as well, are you just using silicone behind the panel at the shower pan? Black mold would be something I'd be very concerned with. Silicone will not hold up over time in a shower or anywhere else for that matter. I would LOVE to do this but am concerned with your method of install. Not being critical as I really do love this idea but. Thanks!!

Thank you so much for all of the videos. I’ve just come on board with how amazing this is and what a great option now as I’m looking as to what to do with my bathroom walls around the shower surround which will be a Jacuzzi that we’re gonna have a drop in for the tub and then it will be an alcove surrounds that might be 3 feet to 4 feet Deep and from the tub up we probably need about 6 feet. I was wondering if you’ve had anything that you can share with regard to the idea of making smaller, say panels and 4 x 4, foot or smaller and filling the space in between with the EVO glass like tile grout? I think that would be really cool and even the idea of even cutting the foam intoplank strips instead and leaving wider gaps and creating a wallscape using the EVOO glass like grout that would reflect the colors from the tiles? Would love any feedback that you may be able to share and not directly connecting them as one panel, but rather doing something like that almost like a mosaic?

What can be done on a vertical shower? I want the tub and shower to look like a big rock.
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs Жыл бұрын
It’s really had to get a pattern on a vertical wall. There is a thickener that you can use, but I really don’t recommend it, as it changes the color of the resin. We fabricate our shower walls out of foam board while they are flat and then install them. We have several videos on this application. Just search “Shower walls” on my KZbin channel. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you Rhonda. Absolutely beautiful, how do you finish the bottom? Can you do a one piece tub and shower?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 2 жыл бұрын
The bottom is going to be against the shower pan so all we do is allow the epoxy to run over and sand smooth if needed. You can apply this to the existing panel on a tub surround, but you may have overhang at the bottoms. It would depend on how much ledge you had on the tub. Hope that made sense. 🤪

@@RK3Designs thank you Rhonda, can you put over the tub part, would it hold up to all that water? @RK3Designs
@RK3Designs Жыл бұрын
The foam board with the epoxy is very light. It would depend on the size of your shower wall, if you used 1/2 in or 1 in foam, but my guess is the panels in this video weighed approximately 10lbs/ea. Most of the showers we do are tile or a prefabbed one.

I would love to know what is your recommendation for a final coat for countertops since ultimate top coat is unavailable? Thanks so much…enjoying learning so much from your videos!

Hi Tasha, I'm just another learner, but I'm guessing this is when we might as well do a flood coat (before installation), so the design isn't altered by accident. I'm nervous about applying UTC after the install, and was hoping this video would have a part 3 to show this. Also, I don't see a link to the live-edge-glazing, and I'd really like to see that.

@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 2 жыл бұрын
Tasha, I should have the UTC available in the next week or so. Until then, you can use your countertops. If they scratch, that’s ok, you’ll sand them with 220 before you apply the UTC anyway and that will take care of them. You can wait as long as you want before applying the UTC. I actually applied to a countertop that was 3 years old. Sanded, rolled on and the countertop looked brand new. If you look in the video description you’ll see video links. Also, check out the tutorial page on my website for additional still shots and product information. 😊

Epoxy can shrink over time. I'd be concerned that the adhesion or material to adhesive layer would fail as the front of these curl.
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs Жыл бұрын
We have showers that are over 5 years old and we've not had any issues with shrinking or delaminating.
@eenkjet
@eenkjet Жыл бұрын
@@RK3Designs I have samples that are stable for about ten years. Perhaps it's due to the material becoming brittle as well as shrinking. Variations in thickness are helpful as the thinner areas break down the monolithic epoxy to EPS interface. Also setting tiny holes in the substrate can act as a "root system" which doesn't adjust for substrate curl but does increase the shear.
