A cut down version of your original video from a year ago but still an awesome project and incredible workmanship. Probably the nicest bluestone flagger patio I have seen on the web.

Is it not feasible to use pitching/tracing chisels and hand tools to get a more old world looks? How much added cost and time would that be?

Hi, this is a great video!! I had some guys do a flagstone patio for me, but not half as clean as what you did, the joints are MUCH bigger. They put concrete sand between the joints and it’s just washing away now. Would you recommend polymeric sand instead, even if the joints are big? They left me high and dry so I’m on my own now. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

What is the drill attachment you use for the edges to make it look more natural?

Did you compact the soil beneath the base materials?

what kind of ground prep do you need for the walkway? I'm guessing that its less expensive and I like the look of the grass growing between the flagstones
@thebackyardexpert4 ай бұрын
Doing a walkway in the same manner would be more expensive per square foot. If you want a looser walkway with grass in between you can do a 4” excavation and put the stone over 2-3” of 1/4” clean stone. Scrape out what you can between the stones and fill with soil and grass. Hope this helps.

@@thebackyardexpert could I get away with a course sand instead of gravel?
@thebackyardexpert4 ай бұрын
@@poorasslawstudent yes but it may not last as long. Something. A little courser is always better.

Hi your explanation is amazing, however there is no information about how the other flagstone with grass was made!

How long will that patio last before you have to go back and do any maintenance? Please help explain the longevity and any possible scenarios pls. Id like to do my back yard in all natural stone
@thebackyardexpert Жыл бұрын
Any surface will need some maintenance. Basic cleaning, etc. As far as overhaul, replacement, type service will depend on how it's used. Basic maintenance on the joints could be every few years. The stone itself will last a lifetime. Of course all this assuming a quality installation.

How do you select the stones you put down first? is there a method? Also, I am in New England and want to build my own patio w the same kind of stone. Why did you decide to use polymeric sand and not a stone dust? Do you always use polymeric sand with this stone when installing a patio?
@thebackyardexpert Жыл бұрын
The ones that are so big we don't want to move them more than once. 😃The joint fill really depends on customer preference. Poly sand is my least favorite, but sometimes the customer wants a cleaner vibe with minimal maintenance and understands that it needs to be replaced over time. I am not a fan of stone dust as a whole, but it depends on how much fines are in it. It is the best option for a client that wants to grow moss. My person favorite is a stone chip, clean DG, micro river gravel, the term varies by region, but a 1/8-1/4 clean gravel

@@thebackyardexpert thank you so much. I agree....I heard the poly sand wasn't the best to use. I do like the mossy look and it may be unavoidable where I am planning my patio so maybe I should encourage it. Great videos. One more question, on a patio with this kind of stone, how to do secure the outside edge of the patio to keep it from shifting out of place when not using the poly sand? I want to build a round patio so I want to make sure it maintains its shape over time.

So is your whole base material 3/4 inch rock ? It looks like 2” then 3/4” ?!
