You did a great job. I need a mantel so I am going to make one. I am 67 yrs old woman and you made it easy to me to understand. Next buying my wood. I have some old planks I want to use and will use finishing nails.

Thank you! Finally a tutorial without a table saw. I was thinking there has to be a way to do this without beveling with a table saw. 😊

Hardware stores will cut the wood to size. I plan to just take my measurements and have them cut. No saw necessary!

I had my doubts, the finished product turned out well. Good job.

Piece turned out beautifully! You probably could use the same technique to make ceiling beams 😃

I'm DEFINITELY going to do this project this weekend. I'm waiting for a fireplace insert to arrive next week and I want to have the mantle completed before delivery. I feel like I can do this based on your instructions. Thanks!

Bro, jsut a comment. You are using the sliding miter saw backwards...look at the direction the blade is spinning. Just sore the top as you drag it back and plundge into the wood and push forward. You cuts will be clean and more accurate as you are also pushing the stock inot the fence....

Thank you for this! I’m looking at floating shelves for $250 and up and none are quite what i want, measurements or stain. Now I can make my own for a quarter of the price!

You can use wood veneer to eliminate the seams too. All you need is a clothes iron.

Turned out well, and simple to build. Thanks for sharing. I have one question on mounting. Is it strong enough to handle additional weight? Would using a French cleat mounting be stronger?
@renoforless3 жыл бұрын
Hi Amar, thanks for commenting! Yes it's fairly strong for additional weight. I've had no problem. You could use a French cleat for extra strength but I wanted to make this as simple as possible.

Looks great! Definitely recommend though that you not post videos if you is power tool incorrectly😬 the way you used the sliding miter saw was incorrect and not safe.
@amarinayat88793 жыл бұрын
I am learning. Would appreciate if you could please point out what was wrong with miter saw, and how to correct it. Thanks.
@tankeryanker70732 жыл бұрын
When cutting anything with a sliding miter saw first pull the saw directly towards you then down then straight back all the way then once the cut is complete then let the saw back up. Going with your cut from the backside of the board you are cutting and pulling it towards you can cause the saw to “kick” and that can be bad my man. Hope that was easy to understand.

Looks beautiful! Thank you for the video. When you used the white paint, was semi-gloss or no gloss?
@renoforless3 жыл бұрын
No gloss, I believe it was eggshell

Hey! Thanks for the comment. I used an 18 gauge gun. I bought it from Canadian Tire (I'm in Canada)

Overall, This is a good looking product. It works as advertised. My only issue is when i put my finger on the front glass switch, It doesn't come on. I have to use the remote.
