Hi, nice video. What size lumber did you use to build the boxes? I know about the 2 x 3's you used but what about the other lumber. Thanks.
@Affordablebath_remodel
@Affordablebath_remodel 3 жыл бұрын
I used pine I had laying around that I made into 5 3/16" x 5/8" for the top and bottom of the box. I cut it into 4 pieces at 24 3/4". The sides were 4"x 5/8" with one piece cut at 26" and two pieces cut at 10 3/8" Then I used 3" spacers to help assemble my box. I laid out the top and two side pieces. I applied wood glue to the ends and then clamped it together. I put four air nails in each end.

Love the tutorial and the outcome! Only question - where do you buy boards that are 5/8" thick? Assuming it wasn't plywood, because then you wouldn't have needed 2 per surface for the top and bottom. (Haven't seen lumber dimensions at Home Depot that matches what you use for the box.)

All depends on having wooden studs! America is built on 2x4s... A lot of the stuff here in Europe is metal frame, which is really thin, which means you've only got the plasterboard itself (sheet-rock) to hold up the shelf. Hmmmn. Ideas?
@TimberTea
@TimberTea 4 жыл бұрын
Humm I've never worked with steel studs before how does a drywall anchor work ?
@RO8s
@RO8s 4 жыл бұрын
@@TimberTea It depends what thickness of sheetrock they have fitted to it. My neighbours put up a wall between my part of the loft and theirs, and it was only ten mill stuff, and the whole wall shivered if you tapped it. It's very quick. You have verticals that you fix top and bottom and the sheet-rock slots into them. You cover the join with filler as normal. Usually, the thin steel frame is fixed to stone or blockword behind it as well, but the neighbours (lazy buggers) had just screwed it to the beams at the top and the floor at the bottom, and there it wavered like a curtain. What I did was to buy heavy sheet-rock and stuck it directly to theirs with a marvelous thing they have here in France called MAP, which is a mixture of plaster and glue. You can do anything with it, including sticking in this case the sheetrock to the floor, wall and ceiling. The resulting wall was solid enough to hang bookcases on it, (though I can still hear the buggers moving about)...
