DIY Fly Fishing Adventure - 1st Time on CO Dream Stream (S. Platte River)

The "Dream Stream" section of the South Platte River in Colorado is the wild cure needed for a fly fisherman. Please come along on this DIY adventure to a famous trout stream that lives up to its name. This is technical fishing for 20+ inch trout on flies smaller than size 20.

Thanks man I'm from Colorado Springs and fish the dream stream regularly really enjoyed this video! I highly recommend buying a net or bringing a net with you so as not to beach those fish! Anything we can do to prevent harm to those fish and keep them in the water as much as possible is a huge benefit to preserve those resources! Thanks again hope you make it back this year!👍

I actually had a collapsible soft net, but was only thinking about landing it as quickly as possible to get it back in the water. What a great video. I loved that you shared your thoughts and your thought processes throughout the video. I enjoy that so much more than the obnoxious KZbin music other people use. I also loved the enthusiasm. Really makes me appreciate what I have in my backyard. A few things. 1. Chances are those were the Blue Winged Olives mayfly you saw emerging from the water. Pheasant tails are wonderful during that hatch on the S. Platte. 2. The Dream (aka Charlie Myers SWA) is a very technical water as you alluded to. I would highly recommend a yarn type indicator versus the bobber type on those waters. Those fish are smart from all the pressure they receive. I went there 2 weeks ago on a Wednesday and there were 20 trucks in the parking lot. 😢 3. If you plan to come back to the area I recommend ordering Pat Dorsey’s “Fly Fishing Guide to the South Platte River. He highlights a lot of the waters in that area that rival the fishing and the views of the Dream. Finally, man that sucks you all only got one day. I hope you get a chance to come back out again and do another video. It truly is a a Dream out here.

I really appreciate your comment, man, and thanks for all the tips! It was beautiful water. Technical fishing is my favorite, and I think the slow flow of the Dream Stream is part of what makes it so challenging. I thought maybe those mayflies were PMDs because they had cream-colored bodies, but they definitely could've been BWOs. I didn't really do any research before fishing there. We were out there for work and only had one day to fish. I can't wait to get back out there though. You're fortunate to have a stream like that in your backyard!
