DIY Foam Backdrop / Dollar Tree DIY Backdrop / Party Decor

This easy and lightweight DIY can help you create a beautiful backdrop of your choice. Decorate it any way you like and can be stored away easily. (It will be used in many of my upcoming DIY videos) Hope you enjoy.

Foam Board (amount depends on how big) (Dollar Tree)
1-2 Jumbo Craft Sticks (Dollar Tree)
Clear Packing Tape (Dollar Tree)
Contact Paper (Dollar Tree) OPTIONAL
1-2 Fix-All Adhesive (Dollar Tree)
Box Cutter
Scissors
Glue Gun w/ Glue Sticks

I like yours too. I made a few backdrops myself but instead of buying foam board I used discarded cardboard boxes from stores such as my local grocery, etc. I then cut my panels to the same size & scored them as needed so that they would fold up. As far as decorating, one is covered in fabric purchased by the yard on sale. The other is painted with a stenciled "tile" on top. I am thinking of making some holiday themed ones in the future. Super simple & cheap to make. The creative options are endless! TFS yours as well. Who knows? Someone may make a hybrid using both of our ideas!

This is a good idea to use if you live in an apartment and can't paint your walls. I saw another idea that I could use instead of painting my walls but this appears to be a less expensive way to add color to white walls.

Are they thick? Around how much?

@@melissagarcia6477 they come in 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, 1inch and 2 inch thicknesses. Some have paper on one or both sides and some have no paper. You can find them at chain "big box" stores, home improvement stores or building supply stores. They come in a range of prices as well, so shop around and compare before you buy.

I’m not sure what I’d do with a backdrop, but I’m about to convert a barn/garden into a crafting area and foam board may be a good replacement for plywood. I can imagine using the foam board for a bulletins board. Thanks

Hi Kenyce. The flower and the marble contact paper I just placed it by a wall. You make sides, like a presentation tri fold board, and it stands by itself. It’s thin and light and can be put away easily. Hope this helped. 😊❤️

OMG so glad I found this. I need to make a foldable background because I teach from home and space is soooo limited with a toddler. This is cheap and perfect ! Thankyou ! My question is if I wanted to make a foldable one (similar to a room divider) would it stand by itself or would I have to prop it against something ?

Hello. If you make the backdrop into 3 parts, like a Trifold Presentation Board, it could stand up by itself. Otherwise you need to attach to wall (use poster Command strips or glue picture frame hooks to the board). I am working on another backdrop (hopefully I will finish soon) it might stand up (fingers crossed). Thank you soo much for your comment.

Hi Jen. You can glue picture frame hooks (those with teeth) to the back of the foam. Or you can use command poster strips (put a few depending on how big you make it) in back of the foam and stick it to the wall. You can also just nail it to the wall. The panels are soo light weight. Hi Jen. Maybe you can make the backdrop with 3 foam boards high (connected by craft sticks) and connect to another 3 foam boards but just use tape so it can fold. The foam backdrop should last. You can also make them separate and then connect them with tape, which can be cut (removed) off, after your event. Hope this helps.

Hello. The amount of foam boards really depends on the width that you need. The pink petal has 6, contact marble one has 9, and the folded one (in the middle of the picture) has 21. Hope this helps. 😊

Hello. You don't place craft sticks on the place you are going to fold. You just reinforce with tape, and only in the front. The tape is strong enough, and if you use contact paper on it, it becomes even more so. Hope this helps you out. Thanks♥
