Perfect build, I just used this style this week. I used 2X3x8" instead of 2x4's, too expensive today. Turned out perfect, plenty strong enough for my needs. What's nice is you can make it by yourself without help and be safe, Super easy and strong.

Thanks for this. There are many of these how to shelf videos on YT. This one is right to the point.

Nice method! Thanks for sharing your tips, really like that. I’m curious, why use drywall screws to tie down the plywood?
@RobertJKeller6 жыл бұрын
Just because they're cheap and less likely to split the plywood so close to the edge of it.

Get that stuff out of the way so you can build more cool things, right? ha ha. Nice solutions, Robert!

What size screws did you use to attach 2 x 4 to the wall?
@em2012ish5 жыл бұрын
Very nice video, simple and to the point.... But how did you secure the cross braces on the end as you did the others since you would essentially have 2- 2x4's to go through before hitting the cross brace on the ends? Your screw would have to have been 4 in. or so i would imagine. If that makes sense.
@timmyrohr32004 жыл бұрын
e g 2:56 at this point he used 3-1/2 inch screws because the actual size of a 2x4 after it's milled (not sure if that's the correct term) is 1-1/2" x 3-1/2". I hope that helps. You probably found the answer already.

What was the thickness of ply? A wide angle shot at the end would be good.

Nice build, but doesn’t having no support legs on the wall side put the entire load on the screws? I was also thinking instead of pocket holes,maybe use 2x4 joist hangers.
@RobertJKeller5 жыл бұрын
It's shared between the front legs and multiple studs.. You'd have to put thousands of pounds of stuff on there for it to be an issue.

I don't have one of those pocjet jigs , I plan on using corner braces .

What size screws are you using?

But the floor away from the wall is sloped for drainage in my home in SC. Have to level to the width of the shelf... Just throwing that in...
@ryanlee48284 жыл бұрын
do you need to put pocket holes on the front end of the cross braces or just the back ends? in the video, you put screws 90 deg into the end pieces of the braces. thanks
@RobertJKeller4 жыл бұрын
Just the back ends, because in the front you can just drill straight into the end of the crossbrace from the front.

Hi Robert, which type and size screws were used to attach wood to the studs and I believe the other screw was 3inch! Was it same one ones? Any idea how much weight can these shelves handel. I was thinking of building shelves that are supposed by ground with six legs total rather than studs since I didn't want poke holes in the studs and damage them if I will have heavy items of the shelves.
@RobertJKeller6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly how much weight they can handle, but they are extremely sturdy. I'm not sure if they would be stronger or weaker by building them detached from the wall. The screws I used were just basic construction screws and the lengths varied depending on how many 2x4s I was drilling through. Hope that helps!
@tranjohn46026 жыл бұрын
The three 2x4 you attached to the wall first, How long was the screw for them 3.5in? If you can give me an idea where and what length and type of screw you used I would really appropriated! Also can you please tell me what setting was your Kregtool set for pocket holes and what pocket holes screw you used (length and weight)

What was the Makita saw? Was it a circular saw and what was the piece laying on the wood that worked as the guide? I hate my table saw (scares me) but that i'd LOVE!!!
@RobertJKeller5 жыл бұрын
It's called a "track saw." Just Google that and it'll come up.

Great Build.. But i have one question to all rack, shelves builders. Why do you all time use 2”4”. I mean, do you store an engine block in top of the rack? Or from an roof hanging shelves? If you do, it’s okey. I made my own roofing shelve from 1”2” and osb in bottom. Strong as h.... But I will never store heavy stuff up there, like an engine block. You know what I mean. I want to get away the stuff i don’t use so often. I mean, in the most videos in KZbin , the construction is over kill. You may split the 2”4” in half and it will never let you down. The advance of that will be that it will gives you two rack out of one. It’s all about of the needs for your use.

what size of wood screws do you use bro??? thanks!
@RobertJKeller5 жыл бұрын
They are actually construction screws, the length I use is either 2.5 inch or longer if I need to go through 2 2x4s.
@bustonio5 жыл бұрын
pocket holes ? Maybe use joist hangers brother. cheap, easy

Seen this technique lots but it doesn't take into account floor not being level.
@michaelsunsdahl58742 жыл бұрын
Was thinking the same thing. I love the conservative/consistent nature of in place measurement instead of slinging the tape measure around all the time, but my shop floor is uneven enough that I'd have to wait to attach the cross supports until slapping a level on there. Can't deny how unfussy (word?) his approach is though. Love it!
