Wow, awesome, I'll start working on one of those. I have a question. Is the heat generated affecting the wood in any way? Do you recommend using some type of heat resistant material between the pan and wood?

Hi Gustavo, thank you for watching and leaving feedback. The heat is not affecting the wood at all and can be touched while the fire is going. I don’t feel a heat resistant material is needed, but it wouldn’t hurt anything if you decided to add it. Good luck on your build. 👍🏼

So you have inspired me to try this project! One question for you: the barrel you used was new but the one I purchased is a used whiskey barrel so is it safe to use a barrel that has soaked up so much whiskey - no fire risk? I understand there is no open flame inside the barrel but my barrel reeks of bourbon! :)

Great build Dan! I have one quite similar out of the pallet that I made. My question to you… Do you ever worry about your table top catching fire? That is my constant worry on mine as when the wind blows the flames get very close to the wood. I even had to exchange my fire ring for a smaller diameter ring. Curious if this was an issue for you as well. I chose not to go the “cement top“ route cause I ain’t that skilled LOL. Great build!

Hi Shayla, thanks for watching and welcome to the channel! I originally had the propane tank inside the barrel hidden with no trip hazards. What’s the actual height of your firepit. What’s if the distance from the propane tank to the fire? Should there be a certain distance?
@inspiringbuilds
@inspiringbuilds Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I’d recommend doing a clearance height test by installing the fittings on the pan and hold it over the propane tank to get the minimum required height. As long as you have clearance between the propane tank you’re good. You can then take the height minus the thickness of the table to determine your barrel height.

@inspiringbuilds
@inspiringbuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel and thank you for watching. There are a lot of variables such as the size of the burner, how long you have it lit for, how high the heat is turned up, etc. I used it about a dozen times last summer and used 1.5 tanks of propane costing $20 per tank.

Be very cautious in building this. Liquid Propane Gas is heavier than air so the potential of it building up inside the barrel without adequate ventilation could result in an explosion causing severe burns or even death. By placing a pan and burner directly over the top of the barrel will not allow enough air flow through the barrel interior. With any propane fire pit, please remember to add ventilation points to prevent catastrophic events from taking place and seek qualified professionals for advice or installation.
