Hello, so with the foil, you still used the adhesive? Also, what setting/temperature do you have the iron you're using at?

Hello again, great video, I am extremely curious as you uses a color I want, can you link me or let me know what foil or brand that was you used for the Red chrome foil? I wanted gold before now I have my sights set on red chrome haha thank you!!

Hi, so it might look red chrome, but it's plain old red. If you apply it correctly on a very smooth surface, it will appear really shiny/chrome. The brand I used was from a store here in the Netherlands called Action. The brand is Foil Art. I believe this brand doesn't sell anywhere else. But to be honest any brand will do. Since it is just red color. I get the best results from iCraft deco foil. www.amazon.com/iCraft-Deco-Foil-Transfer-Sheets/dp/B00SW79UM2/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1HYGEB6U374SZ&keywords=icraft+deco+foil+red&qid=1660918424&sprefix=icraft+deco+foil+re%2Caps%2C146&sr=8-1

Have you ever gilded a bible with tabs cut in? How would you recommend doing it. I am really having trouble with glue being really sticky, but foil is not all sticking.

I have never tried to gild a bible with tabs cut in. But I would recommend leaving the tabs ungilded. So making sure there is no glue where the tabs cuts are made. And just apply the foil on to the straight edge. I think that would give the cleanest look. When it comes to glue being to sticky. It is not supposed to be. I water my glue down until it has the consistency of milk and doesn’t feel sticky at all. After applying I make sure the glue is almost dry and is slightly sticky. And that’s when I apply the foil. By starting with applying gentle pressure with the iron intro to make sure the foil doesn’t shift. You always need to start out with gentle pressure and increase it over time. When you can see the that the foil seems to have stuck to the edge well. As in there are no air pockets underneath the foil. That’s when you should increase the pressure. It takes a lot of patience. Also I let the foil cool off completely before very slowly and carefully removing it. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your great videos, they're really inspiring! Can you use the same gilding process for a pack of cards? I'm mostly curious how to approach rounded edges if this is possible.

Hi, so it definitely is possible to use the same gilding process on a pack of cards. In this video in tried to gild a note book with rounded edges. And it worked well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/baOwc41sfNV7fq8 Hope it helps.

Be careful with temperature because playing cards (at least the ones I had as a kid 30 years ago) sometimes have a waxy coating that might melt with heat. Granted, modern playing cards may be made completely different. I just wanted to mention this possible issue.

@@Boogie_the_catmassively good point. Most cards have a plastic coating that will melt if heated too much

Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial! I really haven’t found many people talking about this method online. Do you think a Cricut mini press would be suitable for this kind of application? Also just curious as to what kind of results do you get if you don’t use glue?
@AnnaMarieReads

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I personally never tried the cricut mini press. So I am not sure what the temperature settings are. If you can have a low temperature setting on the cricut mini press. Than it might work. An issue might be that the mini press won’t be able to reach all the corners on a hardcover book and it will leave some of the corners without any gilding. But that depends on the size of the mini press and the size of the book. And I did try to use the foil without glue. It is possible with certain foils. But I found the result to be less consistent. I needed to use a lot more foil and keep applying it over the same edge to get it to stick. Which made the result slightly patchy. In this video I did it without glue. So you can see for yourself how it turned out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWTbnpSke5Vjmck

Hi, it will be perfect if you gilding playing cards or tarot cards

Hi, so I've got all the equipment and I've been practicing edge gilding on some spare playing cards. I think I'm slowly getting better, but there's still lots of mistakes. I got the mini iron from a link from your edge gilding video, and while it works great, it scratches the foil really easily because it's got lots of sharp metal edges. Is there any sort of way I can dampen the iron or is there some adapter available? I don't even know how to search for this sort of thing. Thanks again!

Hi, so you can dampen the iron by tying a piece off cloth that can handle the heat (so no polyester) around the iron. Something like Jersey or some other cotton material could work. Doing this will start to burn the fabric at some point though. But that’s what I usually use. And I just change out the fabric when it becomes too burned. Make sure you fasten it in a way so there are no wrinkles in the fabric around the ironing part. This will scratch the foil too.
