Thanks! My dad taught me just about everything I know and he always explained so I could do the job right the first time.

If you reverse the drill for the very last bit of the cut, you won't have a rough edge.

Just a tip: when cutting through plastic, run your drill in reverse. Creates a cleaner cut

I’m sorry! I do not have pictures or videos of the pigs using the water tank, but as it turns out the tiny crack opened up in our move and I had to retire the tank to use as a chick brooder.

Thank you! The water tank has worked great so far. This would be a great option for those with mixed livestock as well.

Could you hook up water hose to that water tub?
@HabbyValleyHomestead5 жыл бұрын
Anthony Murphy - Absolutely! Assuming you are wanting the water to automatically refill you would want to locate what is called a “float valve”. Essentially it works as an anti siphon auto shutoff on the end of the hose and works just as the float in a toilet tank shuts off the water in that location. There are several designs of stock tank float valves including designs that attach to the top rim of the tank/tub/barrel and others that actually thread through the drain plug at the bottom rear of this type of tank. Both designs work best when the hose cannot be walked on or disrupted by livestock be it backed up to a fence or other structure so as to protect the hose and float.

Can you list the parts you used to make this? How has it held up to piggy abuse?
@HabbyValleyHomestead4 жыл бұрын
*Gravity-fed pig water tank supply list* Rubbermaid stock tank (100-150 gallon) 1/2” bulk head union (need one per water nipple) 1/2” hog water nipple drinker (be sure to remove the nylon flow regular disc from inside of nipple assembly and reassemble) Teflon tape 1 3/8” hole saw (Make sure to match your hole saw to the outside threaded dimensions of your particular bulk head union.) Results have been great as the tank is quite strong. Over wintered with a 4” styrofoam insulboard lid and a 1500 watt tank heater. (Utilities were not noticeably higher.) Water tank was positioned on the southern exposure of the barn, facing south with additional wind break on the western side. Drinkers would freeze up below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but were easily thawed with boiling water poured over them 2-3 times a day. *All parts and supplies were purchased at our local Tractor Supply and Menards...or were left on the property. 😁

Save old tire tubes and you can use for gaskets. Rubber gets old. I’ve been a pipe fitter for over 20 years and enjoyed the Teflon tape demo Thank you 🙏
