You may could even double the fabric and the rain water would still seep through; I imagine that this fabric will also protect plants from hail storms as well, which is great :)

This is a great idea. You may have just solved a poly fastening problem for me. I've been looking at different fastening systems nearly all day. I've looked at Agra-lock, Poly-lock, et al, and this one is the best one by far. Just requires a little bit more work, and work never hurt anyone. My only questions at this juncture are: will this work as well with poly? If so, what is the maximum thickness it will hold, 6 mil poly? Thank you.

It's not recommended to use PVC pipe to hold greenhouse plastic becauuse it "off gasses" which destroys the plastic film much sooner. They recommend painting the PVC pipe with latex paint that does not contain fungicides, or using tape to prevent direct contact. So, this clever idea would work great for the frost protection fabrics but beware if using plastic film.

They don't sell 3/4" thin wall where I live so I ended up getting 1" PEX which was a little tighter which was probably better in my case as I want the clips to be permanent. 1" PVC would be a bit looser. 1/2" OD: 0.839, 3/4" TW ID: 0.93, 1" PEX: 0.862, 1" PVC Sch40: 1.054.

Did some research and found that the white PVC is not what is needed to be used but the Grey PVC is UV resistant and will not degrade as fast and will last longer it is use for electrical not plumbing.

I use lengths of about 5" inches of the flexible irrigation tubing, because even at that length, the clips are extremely hard to get on and off when the temperature drops. I started early in spring and had to boil the clips to pry them open and run to where I wanted them on! I cut a 1/4" channel out of the tubing with tin snips and it nearly encircles the framing tubes - I used 3/4" EMT. For rounded, hoophouse frames this is an option for gardeners. I'm using it on end frames only right now, but I figure, if I put it on all frames, it would pull the poly in by the depth of the pipe - in my case, 3/4" - and then I could add a second cover and have an insulating air gap, without the need to blow air. I designed my greenhouse to have a retractable side and top and added tie-down ropes crisscrossing between frames, so even if I roll up half of the covering for direct sunlight, I don't have to worry about the wind lifting the cover and popping the clips off. If it happens, it's an easy fix. That is an issue when a length of cover isn't secured with the clips, as I have learned. I've had the irrigation tubing outdoors for 3 years in Canadian winters and it's as good as the day I bought it. In fact, I used lengths that came from my old hoophouse. The tubing, over rebar was what the hoops were made from and that lasted 2 years. Under snowload, they bend, but don't crack. Of course, this tubing can't take a heavy snowload. I doubt anything at 3/4" dia. could... Anyway, I hope someone, scouting for options, can use this info. Thanks for sharing the clip tip, LDS. I like how tidy the front looks with the full doorway length secured like that. if I could afford lumber in 2021, I might have built the new greenhouse with it, instead of galvanized steel. Well, maybe. Wood doesn't last long here, due to high humidity, shade fungus and moss.

"it turns out, that PVC electrical conduit can out-gas chlorine which destroys the UV light stabilizers in the polyethylene greenhouse film and causes the film to degrade.... To prevent premature wear to greenhouse film, manufacturers recommend that surfaces that the film touches should be covered with white acrylic latex paint (but not the mildew resistant kinds that contain fungicides) or non-PVC tape."

I've been planning my greenhouse, and am determinded I'm not forking out way more than I need to accomplish my goal. This is a subject I have been thinking about, and wondering how to do it cheap and work good, and you have the answer. Well done brother. Let's call it the "Inovative Retail By-Pass" award. Given to people like you, that develope or discover inovative ways to do things (DIY) that save people money, and giving them the info without charging money for it. My hat's off to ya. Thanks again for this tip. I put the plastic up on my 8 by 20 greenhouse today. I used the wiggle wire on about half of the greenhouse as I had already bought them and the other half I used your PVC pipe method. If I had to do it again, I would only use your PVC pipe method. Although it took me about 2 hours to prep them, they are much cheaper, easier to put on (specially in tight places) and easier on the plastic. They also seem like they will hold the plastic just as good. Thanks!!

It is too warm not for plastic. I took it off today. I keep the fabric on because it lets 85% sunlight but keeps the heat out. It also really protects against windburn which can really stunt the growth of plants. When it gets cold this coming fall/winter I will put the plastic back on.

You can pollinate them by taking a Q-tip/cotton swab and rubbing in on the male flowers then to female flowers. Do this in the morning when the flowers are open wide and ready to receive pollination. For tomatoes you can just softly shake the plants and that will provide pollination.

Alan as I was designing this I was thinking how well this would work with your greenhouse. You can easily turn your winter greenhouse into a year around "grow house" by being able to quickly and easily switch out plastic and fabric. This is great protection against pests like vine bore that destroys zucchini. You can just plant your zucchini inside your grow house pest free. Something to consider.
