My initial plan was to but a cheap 4x2x6 grow tent, throw away the frame and put the cover on a 4x2x6 set of shelves to make a propagation tent. Had them in the basket ready to click and buy. I then spent £60 more to get the Secret Jardin DP120 Dark Propagator as it had the same layout as my idea plus the cover was guaranteed to fit the shelves without any cutting or restitching needed and without the headaches that would have caused.

Great video. Do these work outside during Winter? Or are they not insulated enough for something like that? Northeast Winter in Northern Jersey.

me personally tents are just not set up for rotation type grows. I built my own and separate germs, veg, and flower/harvest. I like my stuff organized and there is too much unused space in them not to mention too many outdoor factors to worry about if you dont have a closet with it. Idk maybe I’ll upgrade but I dont see a reason to at the moment.

Something to think about, a lot of ppl might want to do DIY for a growbox not to save money, but for reasons related to aesthetics or specific size considerations.

Great vid! This is what I had to do to see if a tent was worth it. When I did the math and found that a tent, twice the size cost the same as diy plan, I was sold.

It's true in some cases you could easily bang together some pvc tubing to build the frame and tack on some mylar sheetings around the outside of the frame and it would generally be cheaper if you were building something not too big I reckon. If you were to need a large grow tent then I think a factory built grow tent for the win for sure. The new AC infinity cloudline series grow tents with Oxford Cloth 2000D that are extra thick do actually look pretty decent tbf! However, if you were to need a small custom size grow tent like 80cm X 80cm x 220cm to fit inside a small built-in cupboard with ducting ventilation holes and port holes on the front top right and bottom right instead of usually on the sides then you may need to build your own custom size grow tent or try an SGL/SGT system. Maybe use something like a self adhesive extra thick zipper room seal door entrance on the front and cut and stick some mylar sheetings around the zipper entrance too blocking the light out from escaping 👍.

So really the issue is material costs and the materials themselves aren't really designed for this. But if someone was to create a lego-like company (but for adults) where you have flexi-lengths, like tent poles, plus a bunch of joints (2 way, 3 way and 4 way), easy wrap around material, etc....you'd have yourself an industry. PVC is ridiculously expensive for a frame: great for hydroponic not for a frame. But bamboo chute is very cheap ($10 for 6 foot pieces x 6). Reflexic and maylar is exprensive...tin foil not as much...so really people need to start manufacturing things to suit the demand. Grow tents are specifically designed to avoid the mold issues of marijuana, but if you are just growing veggies, you don't need a charcoal filter and a grow tent...you need almost as good. So yes: marijuana growers buy a grow tent...everyone else construct one.

Damn built mine in 1f x 1.5f x 2f in a cardboard box. pc fan for intake and a small fan for exhaust. humidifier and a fan on the inside blowing straight up to hit the plants at once not directly. Im still 2 weeks into my first grow but so far my 3 plants are doing great and I pretty much just payed for the lights since I had everything else already. What does your yield look like in that size usually?

@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead for us if we do marijuana (it’s legal here) the big concern is resale of homes that had marijuana growing. So things like tents help avoid the mold and resale issues. I’ve tried indoor gardening for normal plants and one of the issues for soil was bugs. Annoying. Hydroponics was better but i didn’t get around to large scale

I didn’t even think about that potentially having an impact on resell value, that is crazy! Here we are medical only so we don’t see it a whole lot. I’ve heard that is much more difficult to grow than peppers and tomatoes 😂

@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead yep its a mold issue, a humidity issue, a temp issue and ventilation...more than usual plants (although mushrooms and chile peppers are tricky). But marijuana grows very well under growlamps. We're allowed 3 plants per household (Canada), however when people used to get caught in growops, selling the house was a pain (same in the USA). Now we have legal farms and greenhouses. It think in parts of the USA its totally legal...at least state, its still federally illegal...kind of tricky.
