The skirt came out super cute and spooky! I don´t really wear skirts, but I think I´ll try to customize a hoodie in a similar way, because I have a bunch of black hoodies that kind of all look the same. And funny coincidence, but I own the exact same spiderweb fabric as you were using for this project!

one option for cute halloweeny buttons is just to use regular black circle buttons and make little spider legs with embroidery floss ! speaking of which, mild tangent, this project has me so inspired, it recently hit me that all my fashion inspirations are heavily diy and handmade so im diving headfirst back into making and personalizing clothes ^^ that being said, and you being one of those people whose fashion inspires me, i have a question! i just designed a little jumping spider stamp im planning to do lino print patches of! do you have a PO box/would you like a jumping spider patch (or a few? depending on how many spares i end up making xD)

Also how would you wash this safely?
@RattusRattus7 күн бұрын
Remove as many metal bits as possible, wash on cold / delicate and hang to dry :-) you can put it a mesh bag or hand wash if you’re super worried too!! I tend not to wash my super DIYd peices a ton 🤷 (I’ll generally wear layers underneath so I can sweat through those and wash those instead , and spot clean the proper peice as needed!)
@sarahrussell74114 күн бұрын
You are so insanely creative I freaking LOVE THIS! I am curious though - do you have any issues when washing the super decked out pieces you make like this one? I have a few super patched and decorated pieces I’ve made and I’m terrified to wash them but eventually that’ll get gross 😅
@RattusRattus14 күн бұрын
I’d reccomend removing metal bits if possible before washing! If you used fabric specific paint, you shouldn’t have any issues with chipping or fading (or at least I haven’t had issues), spot cleaning is always an option! (Or washing in a mesh bag / hand washing) But I also am ok with touching up pieces in the future if so needed - all part of the evolution! ;-) thank you for the kind words!!
@bughangout14 күн бұрын
how do u wash it with all the chains? just throw in the washer and hope for the best?
@RattusRattus14 күн бұрын
Hmm yeah I guess! In my haste I was excited and should have pinned the chains on instead of sewing them 😂 oh well, when I wash it, I’ll probably cut the thread, and safety pin them back when it’s done!

Thank you for inspiring me yet again to experiment with my own style. A few questions though (if you answered them already, I'm sorry, I got a bit distracted at one point)... how do you wash these dyed fabrics: by hand or in washing machine with - I guess - similar colours? Do they lose colour/stain other fabrics?
@RattusRattus14 күн бұрын
@@Mairu.novich I wash it after dying and that cycle normally gets rid of any residual staining ! Then the diy happens, I haven’t experienced fabric losing color with the dyes - I’ve used fixatives that may have helped ? for staining I think it’s fine - I wouldn’t reccomend washing it with a load of white clothes, but I just wash it with the rest of my regular dark / color clothes , and I always just wash everything on cold water in gentle cycle on machine, hang to dry :-) haven’t had issues!

The only thing I wonder, is it okay to wash clothing in washing machine with safety pins? Sorry if it's a stupid question, genually asking
@RattusRattus3 күн бұрын
Id remove them if you’re worried! The black ones tend not to rust much (at all? Yet?) in my opinion - the silver ones are a bit more finicky for rust - but honestly in my opinion it adds to the charm! And things can be fixed if they get too grotty looking :-) I usually am too lazy to remove them - but totally go for it if you’re worried !
