Being in the botanical extract industry, this is one of the best DIY hand sanitizer recipes I have seen. The only point I would make is that it is best to use a cosmeceutical grade aloe like the 10X-D. The D stands for special processing removing aloin (thought to be dangerous) and reduced molecule size, small enough to penetrate the skin and provide the benefits pointed out in the video.

I've been making my own sanitizer for a very long time and it works. My top though, in place of the rubbing alcohol, I use witch hazel because it's not drying at all and it works just as well.

Many thanks for the recipe Laura. I’ve just made my second bottle - and I love it. I can report, that having made it twice, it does actually turn into a Gel. So far, I’ve used 70% and then 91% Rubbing Alcohol and they both have the same appearance. Very good to have by the kitchen sink for extra cleanliness.

Very important note : the rubbing alcohol must be 95% to 99% alcohol, otherwise it'll be too diluted to be effective. Check the concentration on the bottle of rubbing alcohol !

I upvoted those who warned about the alcohol %, downvoted those telling to use ~70% alcohol, and left a comment on those who don't talk about the alcohol %. You didn’t talk at all about the proportions and how you need the “sanitizer” to be at LEAST 60% alcohol. That means you have to mix in 99% rubbing alcohol, not 70 not 60.

U can use glycerin as well for moisturizing. Most drug stores have it in the skin section. The cdc does say they do not recomend using oils as some may be allergic. This is of course u plan on donating or selling them... excellent video btw😌

I just followed the instruction and made my own hand sanitizer tonight, 70% alcohol, 30% of pure aloe vera gel, plus some essential oils. i use tea tree and lavender oils smells pretty good but its liquid, unlike the market or shops really gelish though.

PSA: For a hand sanitizer mixture that is one part aloe and two parts rubbing alcohol, your rubbing alcohol needs to be at least 91% alcohol to achieve the CDC’s recommended 60% minimum alcohol content by volume in a hand sanitizer.

Great video! You didn't specify the Alcohol % of the Rubbing Alcohol. The Isopropyl Alcohol needs to be at minimum 91% for the correct Alcohol by Volume of the mixture. When WHO made public the recipe for sanitzier, they specifically said to not add anything other than the ingredients they posted. Because you dont know the extra ingredient that you add (in your case essential oils) might react with the other igredients.

Fioly Woods if you are diluting the alcohol like that..,you should use 180 proof alcohol...not rubbing alcohol. If you don’t dilute with any other ingredients,...just rub your hands with 70% (or higher of course) rubbing alcohol. Diluting down any rubbing alcohol as she shows minimizes it’s it’s strength to kill virus.She dilutes the alcohol strength by 1/3, and if you are using 70% or even 90% rubbing alcohol, that’s negating it’s efficiency. Which is why any recipes should be using everclear or very high proof alcohol.

In extreme situations very salty water can be used. mixed salt with boiling water. Salt should be added to the water while mixing until the water are unable to dissolve any more salt , let the water cool down, hands should be soaked in the salt water for about half a minute, then wash your hands with soap and water.

Appreciating the good work, it is highly advisable to specify the minimum amount of Rubbing alcohol added instead of saying 2/3rd. many people are making mistakes of this. Because the alcohol they use with 70% may not work the same way as yours.

Only the alcohol that around 70-75 is effective for Coronavirus so the one that you might find out on the market like dettol is not gonna be effective although they can kill 99.9% germs. It’s almost impossible to create a GEL with that high percentage of alcohol so that’s why. The amount of aloe vera has to be small.

@@francescam.e.1884 Gonna sound dumb, but Xanthan gum and a high speed blender works wonders. You have to make sure your alcohol mixture is correct and factor in the xanthan gum to the mix. I made some the consistency of hair gel. Seems to work so far. When you think you've blended it enough, blend it again. (I'm using a magic bullet/ninja smoothie blender)

What percentage are you using of isopropyl? Make sure is 91% the final alcohol content needs to be 70% to be effective on Covid-19. Just make sure you pour rubbing alcohol little bit at a time.... recipe for close to 70% is 3/4 cup alcohol to 1/4 cup of anything else you using no more than that if not final content will decrease (6.5ounces alcohol to 1.5 oz of any of this vitamin e/essential/aloe vera/water/hydrogen peroxide/coconut oil)

NO. Witch Hazel has not been rigorously tested for it's ability to inactivate a broad range of viruses, thus we cannot use it under biosafety standards. And please don't use vodka either. 60-80% isopropyl alcohol/ethanol is the best.

I live in a Colo, my coconut oil is hard in the winter, then it turns to liquid in the warmer months. So how's that going to work for me?

I am using fractionated coconut oil, it does not solidify.

Use Isopropyl alcohol of 99% purity..It will better. Because sanitizer must be 70% alchol or more

Your title says this is a diy gel mix. This is the same as your liquid form sanitizer. How do we make it into a gel?

She is using the gelling agent in the aloe vera gel hoping it does thin out too much when she adds the alcohol. There is only enough in it to thicken the Aloe vera. Once you add alcohol, you more than double the liquid therefore not enough gelling agent. If you add a gelling agent like cabomer or xanthan gum to the Aloe vera, then add the alcohol, the gel will be thicker. The color will be a little milky depending on which gelling agent you use.
