They are both blades, but a utility blade is thicker. Some projects you can use either one, but I find it's easier to cut thick board with a utility blade.

Just wanted to thank you for sharing this video. I actually used this as a reference to repair an elastic band that has lost its' stretch on a pocket Moleskine notebook! I think next time I do this, I will try using a hair dryer to gently heat up the back panel to help pull it up a little bit easier. Thank you! 😊

Hi, I know this is kind of strange question, however: does anyone know how this process works in a mass production? there is a specific industrial machinery to add elastic bands to notebooks during the production, or is an handmade process? how is this made in big brand's factories like moleskine? Thank you, I'm a design student

Likely, but I can't say for sure, the books get punched, then glued, then maybe people place the bands like she did, then it's sent down to be glued again, for the piece of paper that goes over the book. But I just reversed what she did, and tried to think what could be done by machines and what might be done by hand. Good luck!
@ZachariahWiedeman9 жыл бұрын
I'm looking at mass producing this myself, however I am just using a 3/8" handheld slot punch (used for punching ID badges). Companies like Moleskin use prefab machinery to attach elastic. I am not recessing the glued elastic into the board nor am I hiding it under paper. I ordered my 3/8" elastic from China on alibaba for $100 per 1000 meters. Hope that helps.

Look up German assembler inserting machines one type is called a gahvarhen spelling is possibly incorrect as I am not German nor work with one for a few years now.

Hello , thank you so much on your detailed vids. Can't wait to try coptic stitching , don't know if this helps , but ever tried using a heat gun or a blow dryer to soften your old glue off the covers or on your candy box disasembling? Being a total guy I tend to rip things apart, and this helps to make things come off smoother . Thanks again for the awesome vids!

I have a Muji A5 PP notebook- which basically has a polypropylene cover. It's sort of a hard plastic, but I badly want to but an elastic band closure to it as well. But I don't know how, and if doing so will only ruin the notebook.
@SeaLemonDIY11 жыл бұрын
Since the band stretches, it shouldn't make that much difference if your book is full. The band will just stretch over it :)

Sorry for a noob question. But can you tell me what is the use of this elastic band? It just seems an extra hassle to me!?
@ManishArora81 Жыл бұрын
@@abhishah7139 it keeps the loose pages kept inside the notebook held inside. Also, allow you to stick your pen with it, so kinda works as a pen holder too. For me, personally, when my notebook has elastic band, the other person would think twice before opening my journal even if I am not around. It’s kind of pseudo protection … lol

Where do you get these kinds of elastic bands from? I've tried shopping for the elastic band by searching "journal elastic" online but I'm not getting results for just the elastic band. Is there something specific it is called?

I would've just eyeballed it. Better yet, forget the long piece of cut elastic. I'd sew the elastic ends together, then wrap it on the notebook. Voila! Problem solved! Actually, I'd just buy the notebook at the Dollar Tree or 99 Cents Only Store! I just save a lot of wasted time and effort. Hahahaha!

+min spears pretty sure the tutorial is for something you already have that DOESN'T have an elastic band, also easier solution is get high quality super glue that can even glue metal/glass

HI ive already started using my sketchbook for art, and its already kind of full cause I have visual materials in it. Do you know how I can put the elastic book closure on it correctly without it being too wide or anything?? (my book is A3 by the way :)

hey sealemon, could you do a video on binding a book with the iron binding like on this notebook? Sorry new to all this so don't know all the correct terminology. I'm wanting to make a sort of travel book made from scratch for a uni project but I've never done anything like this before. I think I know how to do everything except the binding of the pages. thanks, A
