Just finished installing heating cable. Followed your directions. I was sure I was going to have about 30 feet extra but there was only about 4 feet that I was able to move into the gutter. Also, pointing out that we shouldn't be letting the water under the sidewalk was really helpful. We just had a new patio installed and the drainage goes under that. If that would have heaved from me doing this it would have been curtains. Thanks for the great videos. Kevin - Buffalo, NY

I love that you show the cable going through the pipe under the cement, but what happens on the other end. My gutter ends in a dry well. Do I run the heat cable part way into the gravel to ensure _that_ doesn’t freeze in those upper few inches still above the frost line? (Idaho frost lines are deep)

I just ran my own here in Buffalo after watching this video. Thanks for the help! Question though - Do you leave it up all year long? You're gluing the clips down. I'd prefer to leave it along all year, but wondering how much that affects the life of the cable sitting up there in the sun all day all year.

Awesome Rick! No need to take the cable down. Drexan heat cable is rated to perform in the sun all year for 20+ yrs. There are other cables that only have a 2-5 yr life expectancy.

The product in this video is the lower grade cable. It's left installed all throughout the year, but only has about a 2-5 yr life expectancy. The homeowner didn't live in too cold a climate and didn't have the money to put in higher end cable. We offer Drexan heat cable and product accessories at heatcable.com/shop/ for more robust and higher efficiency systems. They're are also expected to last 20+ yrs.

Hello Radsan. Sorry we missed seeing your question before. Our self-regulating heat cable by Drexan is warrantied for 10+ yrs, but is built to last for 25+ yrs. The Constant wattage cables that come from hardware stores tend to last between 2-5 yrs. why not just leave it fully in the rain gutters? why bother installing up on the shingles?
@wasatchheatcable8757
@wasatchheatcable8757 2 жыл бұрын
Great questions, Matthew. Ice dams tend to form on areas above cold zones on a home such as soffits. See video kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6e8lp-Je898g5I Sometimes the damming will not allow the water to even reach the gutters, before it's blocked by ice, which is why the zig zag pattern is recommended above those areas. Hope this helps answer your questions!

Typical one installer not paying attention to another installers work. Apart from the esthetic wishes of the owner, why not ALWAYS run heat cable to the outside of the gutter? Firmly attached for heat conduction. But especially a LOOP inside the gutter? Might as well plug that gutter up from the beginning.
