Nice, but stain too dark IMO, you loose the herringbone pattern too much.

Maybe, but just minimally IMO. The dark stain gives it a very chic & elegant look. But I can see wanting to see the grain or herringbone a bit more too, but I also love this look. “Different grains for different brains”

Great idea and execution. My only suggestions would be to use a mask when spray painting and apply the poly outside or in the garage to keep from getting fumes inside the house. The black top would also look real good with an epoxy coating. I think you are an amazing young lady.

Love the stuff you do! Question in good faith for this project: Since the hardwood is an unstable substrate and you're bolting it on top of the plywood which is a stable substrate, won't that cause issues when the wood expands and contracts? This extends to the mitered border as well. I'm guessing you have lots of faith in your paint and finish?
@carlosburgos53802 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I love the way you walked us through the process, but perhaps connecting them with dowels may help prevent future problems when the wood starts to expand ans contract.

Two questions. Do you find a bristle brush gives a smoother finish than a foam brush on the poly? Second, do you thin the poly (to get it to flow more smoothly) or use it straight from the can, and why? Thanks.
@jhonatanponce27454 жыл бұрын
Hi Stefani! I’ve heard that pine is not the best material to use for tables since it gets dented easily, in your experience is that true? If so, what other kind of wood would you use? Thank you!

Awesome table, love your channel, thanks for your service! We built our closet around your idea too and now making the table. Question… I’m at the stage of sanding right now and I’m finding that it’s lumpy where the boards meet. Is that expected? Does the poly help with that? Thanks! Keep it up!

If I have a different size of wood then you, do I still move the center line over 2” in order for it to be centered?
@zaynesalmon30703 жыл бұрын
How is this holding up? I have never laminated standard wood over plywood with glue like that as I was concerned about wood movement - standard wood expands and contracts a lot while the plywood base does not. This does look quite good though.

What is the formula you used to determine moving 2.5" left of center. I think it has to due with the width of your herringbone boards (6") but I can't figure out what formula you used to determine. I'm curious in case I want to build something with smaller width boards.

I am wondering about the expansion and contraction of the wood! Isn't this prone to crack since solid wood expands and contracts throughout the year and the wood have no room to do that?
