Amazing to see the autonomous actions after getting hooked. A genious way of catching catfishes
@BackroadsAngling2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The springs provide resistance and actually fight the fish while you are taking time to get over and grab the rod. I find the hooksetter is a good way to fish multiple rods without having to worry about missing bites.

Awesome idea! Just needs a bell I guess so you know when they're hooked
@BackroadsAngling3 жыл бұрын
Yes I think a bell would be a nice addition. I've thought about going river camping and setting this up at night. In that case a bell would be essential.

The awakening was really great to watch. Carp here in SA are very sensitive and take a long time nibbling mostly before setting off, so your d invention y is excellent. Thanks
@BackroadsAngling3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I hope it works for those sneaky carp! That is what the toothbrush should do is allow you to dial in the sensitivity for the fish species you are dealing with. Good luck!

I like it because it alerts you when you get a bite in addition to actually hooking the fish. Sometimes when you get busy with a 2nd rod it is easy to take your eyes off the other one for a second. If you have luck like me then that means the fish wait to bite until the exact time I stop watching my rod!

Are you using the Vyper X da Psifun? I' d like to know what you see about the anti reverse of this in model 1000 or 500. Aqui no Brasil esse molinete me chamou a atenção mas tenho dúvida sobre o sistema de anti reverso dele, pois os modelos 1000 e 500 não tem trava e eu queria saber o motivo.

Think this would be good for trout fishing
@BackroadsAngling3 жыл бұрын
I think it might work on the most sensitive setting but I will have to try it to see. This one is less sensitive than the one that I built for ice fishing which I find is actually a good thing when you are catfishing. It doesn't go off until they start swimming off with the bait. I haven't bait fished that much for trout so I don't know how hard they bite when they take a worm, etc. I will try it when I get a chance.
@0spikex03 жыл бұрын
@@BackroadsAngling That is awesome man! Great work. For trout, I always go with powerbait. It slays the trout! But trout are very hit and run type fish so the littlest bite can take the bait and they're gone. So this would be sweeet for trout for sure.

How much force does it take to release the pole to set the hook?😊😊
@BackroadsAngling2 жыл бұрын
I would say it takes a medium force to set it off. It's not a hair trigger but any pull with much force will set it. You can adjust this somewhat - If I want it to set on a light bite I put the trigger on the very edge of the toothbrush and it doesn't take much to pull it off.

You have to keep the slack out of the line...Right?
@BackroadsAngling3 жыл бұрын
It's OK if there is some slack. Once the line goes around the trigger it will stay there. If you do have some slack the fish with take that up as it swims away with your bait. However if you are fishing for more finicky fish you might want to keep the line somewhat tight so that they set it off with their first touch. I like to keep mine somewhat loose when fishing for catfish because sometimes they will pick the bait up and drop it several times before getting serious and finally swimming away. I don't want the trap to set until they have committed to the bait.

Now that is the laziest thing .I've ever seen do You fish or sleep
@BackroadsAngling3 жыл бұрын
Actually it's the opposite of being lazy. I like to cover water. I usually fish more than 1 rod - 2 set lines and an 1 active casting rod. I also like to spread my lines out to maximize my chance of finding the fish. If you do this there is no way to be there every time one of your rods gets hit. Inevitably you will be down the bank tending to a rod and you miss a fish on another rod that you never even realized was biting. With the hooksetter you don't have to worry about missing bites.
@paulfranciosi59703 жыл бұрын
@@BackroadsAngling use a rod pod or bank sticks with an alarm a proper one that we use in the uk and Europe.These hook setters are not good and thankfully would be banned in the uk I think it's bad angling no offence 44 years of angling in the uk I would have a fit if I saw anyone using one of them over here.We even use antiseptic for hook holds before we release that's how much we protect our fish.
@BackroadsAngling3 жыл бұрын
I disagree. I am all for protecting the fish but the hook has to be set whether you do it by hand or the device does it. I am not advocating for leaving the thing alone by itself and not monitoring it. That would be bad angling. With the hooksetter I can use an extra rod which allows me to explore more water. I also have been catching a lot more fish because those that would normally pick up the bait and drop it are getting hooked before they can drop it. Fish that would set off my alarm but be gone by the time I get to the rod are getting hooked instead.

@BackroadsAngling3 жыл бұрын
Why is it different than if I set the hook on the fish by hand? I understand if you leave the fish sitting on the line for a long time thats not good but if they are on the line for an extra 20-30 sec while I walk over and get my rod it isn't affecting the health of the fish at all.
