Hi Jeff Been watching your vids this beautiful Saturday Finding them to provide clear and useful info. My Dodge Van's 270watt solar city panel, on the ladder on the roof racks, is used to keep my cordless power tools charged plus the fans, inside lights and the laptop all stays fully charged. Thanks for clearing up some of the solar controller questions I had on some of your other vids.

Hi Jeff ! I have a 20ft. cargo trail and wanted to know if the 200w solar kit would work on that.. I will have 2 or 3 batteries each one will be 155 amp hrs.. I would love to hear your input on this. It will run L E D lights and my pc laptop and some other stuff .. I'd love to hear from you Thank you for your time and your inspiration .please keep up the great work hope to see more videos soon

The charge controller is 30 amps. Each panel is about 4 amp output. So the answer would be about 8 100 watt volt panels.. Thanks moguy316 for the good comment.

Jeff , I was looking at Sharp model ND-Q250F7, I noticed that the max voltage was 29.8, could I use four of these panels to make a 1kw off grid system?

How much do you have your 100 watt 12v panels jeff?? Is there a discount if bought in quantity?

Jeff your second diagram seems to indicate a 24 VDC and not a 12 VDC connection but you show a 12 volt battery I believe this is incorrect. Great videos I'm learning plenty

Hey there, I've been looking at playing powerful speakers on the beach for a while now for camping trips. Where I live its illegal to bring portable generators on the beach (probably for good reason). I need ~200watts for my speakers, (logitech z623), which I normally plug into a wall outlet at my house(120v)... This says its only 12/24 Volt, is it possible to make this 120volt somehow? Would I lose watt power? Thanks for your time!

Hi Jeff: love all your videos, easy to follow and understand, but I have a question. If I want to set up a small solar system to run a small 135w fridge, how many solar panels would I need?,and also how many batteries and what kind of charge controller and inverter? Thank you and Happy Holidays!

I always enjoy when people try to answer the question about what you can run using a 100 watt solar panel. The more appropriate question is what can I run off of my battery bank and how long will it take to recharge my battery bank using X watts of solar panels. For example, if I had a 600 amp/hr battery bank, I could potentially run some high draw appliances for a few hours. But if I had a single 100 watt solar panel, how long would it take to replace 300 amp/hrs of charge into my battery bank? Likewise, if my battery bank was only 90 amp/hrs, how long would it take to replace 45 amp/hrs into it? It is possible to have a large battery bank and a small PV array, but you might need to charge for 2-3 days to replace the amount of power that you use in just 4-5 hours of running appliances. There are a multitude of questions to be asked in order to determine the size of the various system components (PV array wattage, battery bank size, charge controller size/type, inverter size, etc...) when designing a solar system. Still, it is good to give beginners some rough ideas before getting into the nitty-gritty details of a purpose designed system. I like the 200 watt kit that you have put together.

Hey all, just getting started in the solar area. I just purchased 2 deep cycle batteries. My next purchase will be the inverter. I am reading about modified and pure sine and wow! why are the pure more expensive and is it worth it to justify the purchase, also Guage wire from panel to charge controller.....size wire from batteries to charge controller... battery to battery...and are inline fuses necessary, if so, where and how many.......many thanks from trying to go green novice, lol
@Sight-Beyond-Sight9 жыл бұрын
+Chris Norris You want good thick cables especially for distance runs to avoid unneeded voltage drops. Pure sine is good for more sensitive electronics, otherwise I never worried about it. I have a UPS for my computer equipment and I let it worry about the energy. When you are running basic lights and such for a SHTF type thing, you don't care about dirty power.

Anything with a transformer in it like a battery charger needs a pure sine wave.

Hi Jeff i have a quick question... what if it's only 100 watts panel with a charge controller and a deep cycle 70AH? how many bulbs would it cater? or let we say i will be using 2 unit 12v DC electric fan 15 watts and 4 LED 4 watts lights? how long would it run? Thanks, Allan

Great video! I like how it can be use for 12 or 24 volt systems. another thing that is important is to always hook up your batteries to the charge controller first and disconnect them last.
@MissouriWindandSolar9 жыл бұрын
***** Your correct about that. So many people hook up solar to a charge controller first then the battery, the charge controller gets fried.

Make sure people know the difference between a regular inverter and a pure sin ware inverter its very important if you plan to use a tv or a radio.
@carolbellinger10 жыл бұрын
it;s VERY VERY VERY important to get a real tight connection on your cables from your inverter to your battery. if the connection isn;t real tight you will only get around 90 volts instead of 120 volts. i bought a new one and this happened to me. i am so thankful that my brother in law had one and knew what my problem was. i was about ready to bring it back or try to sell it. but when i put some new connector ends on my invertor and screwed it down tight it worked perfect. i finally got my true 120 volts. i have used it to wire and plumb a new house. used less gas doing it that way than by using my generator. i hope i could help someone...
@MissouriWindandSolar10 жыл бұрын
carol bellinger Your right about having tight connections and the proper size cable from the inverter to battery is also very important.
@ChristmasEve7779 жыл бұрын
carol bellinger I've had quite a different issue with connections not being tight enough (not enough surface area). The voltage actually always seems to be exact but the number of AMPS I can pull through the wire becomes limited if I don't have a good connection. Not only is the current limited, but the wire and connector close to the battery can become very hot.

I don't get it, why do say they put out a lot of power? Earlier you say the two panels can power one electric light bulb. If I have 10 light in my house I would need 20 panels right? And 20 panels wouldn't be enough to power my refrigerator. Do you have any that produce more power?
@MissouriWindandSolar11 жыл бұрын
These are 2 100 watt panels which equals 200 watts. If your using the compact fluorescent light bulbs at 13 watts each these 2 panels would run 15 of those bulbs. Yes we have over 200 watt panels.
@danieltigges85906 жыл бұрын
You set up a battery and a power inverter to it to produce more wattage. The more batteries you have the more potential energy that is stored, the more panels you have the faster the batteries charge up. Hope that helps a little

Was disappointed. thought it was going to be a DIY on building solar panels. instead of a commercial. I live off grid and use 500 watts (solar panels adding to) 24 volt system, 8 golf cart batteries. Am going to need to replace my inverter as the control module is dying. Plan to use outback instead of xantrex 2424 as my charge controler is from outback is maxpower point and I run my panels in series so I get much better performance than with parallel/ I am wanting a smaller system (cheap) or DIY for out buildings. out buildings can be 12 volt as mostly will be lights and occassionally a quick hand tool use, where it is more bother to start the generator than is worth. Like drill one hole or grind off a sharp edge on a little project. Right now I save them up and do a day of things rather than complete as I come to it. I figure 2 to 6 hundred in 12 volt with 4 marine batteries and my 1500 watt inverter will get me operational, not perfect but working. do you have DIY for a project like mine (cheap is good).
