Everything worked out great. I built it right away. The only issue I found, was that the axel was not well supported due to the difference between the inside diameter of the plastic nipples and the axel itself. I also found the plastic was a little weak and the forks would pop out with a little twisting. I took a wooden dowel, pressed it in and drilled a hole through the middle. Now the axel has no wiggle room and is supper sturdy. Hopes this helps anyone with their project and thank you for putting up the video.

Please excuse my ignorance, but when you say drilled a hole through the middle of a wooden dowel do you mean lengthwise? If so, what sized drill bit did you use?

Attach t-mount to flange first and then mount flange to wood. This will ensure a tight connection of the t-fitting and also ensure that the fitting is properly aligned

This is a great idea, I built one so I can store 2 mtbs in the back of my van under my bed. I guess the thing I wished I had done was to make sure the pvc nipples would fit the spacing of my fork as well as my thru axle. For the latter just bring your axle with you to Home Depot. Not trying to be a hater, just trying to save someone some hassle. Thanks for the great idea!

@singletracks2 жыл бұрын
If you mean the 'rod' with the quick release lever that slides through the pipe/rack hardware, that's just the thru axle that comes with your fork. It's the same one the wheel rolls on so you should already have this!
@rnfaboy2 жыл бұрын
@@singletracks so when you take your wheel off you just remove the thru axle bolt and use it for your mount. Thanks.
@singletracks2 жыл бұрын
@@rnfaboy Right, when you remove the axle to take the wheel off, slide it back into the fork to secure the bike in the rack mount. This also helps you avoid losing the thru axle, which definitely can happen!

I am making this today. I have a 15mm boost. The 1/2 plastic nipples are not big enough for the axle to slide through. I bought the 1/2 set like you said but with the two nipples that hold the through axle being brass not plastic. The brass nipples are a perfect fit but there're brass. Also the 1/2 nipples (close) are 1 inch and not wide enough for the boost setup. I got the brass ones in 1 1/4 and it is a little wide. Gonna have to file this one down. I also got the entire set up in 3/4 instead of 1/2 and it works great. I'm gonna keep the 1/2 one to show friends and or let them use it. Thanks for the video.

Nope. MTB have bigger axles by a few mm. You and i have 12mm diameter front axles whereas this guys' MTB is probably 15mm or so. I recommend taking your axle into your local hardware store and just looking for fittings that fit snugly and build from there.

For $27 you can buy a fork mount on Amazon and it's lockable! This seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
@singletracks2 жыл бұрын
Good point! Some of the non-locking ones are as low as $20 on Amazon (and they only work with QR axles), though that's per bike mount so if you want 3 you're looking at $60-80+. For those on a very strict budget, black pipe still might be the way to go. Locking mounts from a reputable brand like Yakima cost $70 each.

@senglebe3 жыл бұрын
the bike is long enough and enough of a counter balance that that shouldn't really happen, but you could run a strap through the rear tires if you're worried about it. I like this concept generally, but I don't like how loose the axles would fit. I bought an aluminum one of Amazon instead for around $17 a piece that is designed to fit the 15mm x 110mm axles of modern mountain bikes.

I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. kzbin.infoUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...

@shredwithscott6 жыл бұрын
The fittings are pipe thread, so a 1/2 NPT fitting only defines the threads and pipe OD, it doesn’t specify the ID. One table I found says 1/2” NPT is .622” ID, which is 15.8 mm, but the PVC fittings must be a tad thicker.
