Love your videos ❤, and thanks to you I've finally confirmed that my hair actually does grow in layers so I really don't need this tutorial but it's a good thing because my hair is very thick and even though its just past shoulder length (from the back, the front is just past chin length) my loctician predicted that my hairs gonna be really heavy in a few years.

So glad to find this video! I just had my 6 year locversary! Would you know, I began losing locs in the front because of Alopecia Reata which was brought on by stress. I was almost ready to get a TWA. Then Facebook memories shared my installation. I looked at the progress over time and began to cook up a game plan on how I wanted to repair my locs after my dermatologist visit. I also have arthritis in my neck and my locs are getting a little to heavy. I figure layers would help alleviate some of the weight. Thanks so much for posting!

Jess straight it probably is very choppy. You cannot measure from hair tips to cut because the hair was not even at the tip. You have to measure from a stationary point like the scalp and once you cut a guide for a section..use that same guide to ensure evenness in that section. I am betting it is uneven as hell, unless she trims it up more off camera

I have never seen reverse measuring used to cut hair. Normally a measurement is eyeballed from SCALP to the length you want or measured from the SCALP to the length you want to create a guide. Then the guide is used to cut each section of hair. Measuring the hair you cut off is risky unless all of your hair is exactly the same length or is graduated to account for different lengths at the top and sides. Even then, due to the way our heads are shaped, no measurement can be used all over because the length and evenness depends on where the hair falls on the head. Have to pass on this approach.🤗 In the end..it looks gorgeous curled. But I was a cosmetologist. Right away I can see the challenge in your cutting methodology.
