Thank you so much for showing the old and new heaters side-by-side! That helped me diagnose my problem - should be an easy fix!

May i suggest covering the drain hole while unscrewing/screwing the the left screw for the defrost heater. I just covered it with the bubble wrap that came with replacement heater. Just remember to remove it afterwards as well. If you're not prone to dropping screws at the most inopportune times and locations. Don't worry about it 🙂 thanks! Good video!

My frigidaire wasn't cooling. There was ice build up ONLY where the tiny tube connects to the coil. Rest of the coil was clear of ice Tested the heater and thermostat (had dry ice handy to chill the thermostat) both checked good. Cleaned coils in the back. Wasn't very dirty. Freezer was only cooling to 10 degrees then 20 degrees. Wondering if maybe it needs freon?

Is that ice build up a refrigerant leak? My coils are frosting over every couple days. When I defrost, the bottom right doesn't seem to really defrost as quick as the rest

I’m currently having this problem but it sounds like my fridge actually goes into defrost mode. Do you think melting the ice on the coils will work? I have the same exact fridge and just by pushing on the panel you removed, I can tell there’s ice because it makes that squishy sound ice makes. Anyways the video is a big help in terms of knowing what I’m dealing with

How do we know when the thermostat is not working? The coils on my GE refrigerator are frozen. It’s a double door, and my fridge is not cooling. I set the temperature at 34 for the fridge and for the freezer at 1 and the temperature is not setting. Any suggestions?

My coils keep freezing over. The repair guy says it's the board. Said the thermostat works and the defroster works if he forces it on. But since it's 30 years old we can't get a board to replace. I wish I could bypass the board and just put in a timer to defrost every so often. Is that possible?

I have a GE fridge and having the same issue as you. 2 weeks ago I defrosted the coils cause the kids left the door open all night. Now the back panel has frosted over again and I'm thinking I need to replace that part you did. Where did you order that part from? Also I can't find the model number for this GE fridge, where can I find it? Great video, I'm definitely going to use your guide to fix mine!

The label for my GE fridge can be seen when I open the refrigerator side and look inside (it's not on the door- it's actually on the inside wall on the right side at eye level). If I remember correctly, we got the part from Amazon. Google your GE fridge model plus "defrost heater" and something should pop up. Good luck!!

I evidently purchases this same pile of crap GE refrigerator. I have had it 13 going on 14 years and started fixing on it 1 or 2 years after It was purchased. I have replaced everything on it except the compressor. I am on my 3rd heater to keep the coils unfrozen which I just installed a few hours ago. I replaced this same heater about 1 year ago. I did put another thermostat on it this time and hope this will make it last a couple more years but I wouldn't hold my breath. I am just keeping this frig around to see which one of us is the most stubborn. I have replaced the circuit board, ice crusher, flapper between the deep freeze and refrigerator section, the drawer that holds the ice. The heater in the door that keeps your waterline from freezing which lasted about a month. etc., etc, etc. I finally just got a piece of board insulation and taped on the door behind the water spout and where the ice comes out. This frig gives planned obsolescence new meaning or the designers and engineers were a carload of clowns that got lost from a circus . The circuit board I got from ebay. The rest of the parts came from Amazon. But don't buy them all because I am sure I will be ordering more.

ROFLMAO I think i have the same piece of crap refrigerator. I've had it about 15 years and have already put in about $600 worth of repairs. The icemaker doesnt work so I use ice trays, I don't use the water dispenser because I have an RO water system. I am having the problem with freezer coils having ice buildup and I can tell this is happening because the fridge will just stay cycling on for an extending period of time. I get my wife's hair dryer and melt all the ice buildup and its good for about a month. I'm going to try and replace the defroster, hopefully the part doesnt cost too much. Maybe I should just buy a new fridge?

Will using heat gun mess up thermistor or heat thermostat ?
@SuperSimpleFixes3 жыл бұрын
No, because the heat gun isn't pointed directly at the thermostat. It's only used to speed up the defrosting situation.
